Fleetwood Town v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 05.12.20

Maxwell. I'm eating my words as he is now coming off his line and clutching the ball out of the sky. Good stuff.
The downside...he and the left side of defence need to talk more often and louder when deciding who's going to play the ball that's just been threaded through by their forwards. After you Claud just won't do.

Two evenly matched teams, although we are finding our feet and improving. A good run over Xmas and we could be right up there. The future .... is tangerine!

I think Simon Saddler deserves some serious recognition for the work he has put in. When the defence was looking weak, invests in some excellent defenders, midfield looked a bit flat, Dougall comes in, Critchley looking like he was struggling, Calderwood appointed.

Whilst of course this is all the doing of the management and players, Simon has been incredible in his role and all of this current success has trickled down from his hard work.
Whilst I agree with the overall sentiment of this, I'd like to think we have better planning than thinking certain players/positions are needed so Ben Mansford has to go cap in hand to SS and ask for the green light to sign someone.
It is far more likely we have an overall budget to work to/from which has been the plan all along.

Not the best performance, but the sign of a good side is winning when not at your best. There have been countless times that a top side in the league has come to Bloomfield Rd and done us 1-0 like that without looking anything special.
When I say not the best performance, I mean in terms of composure on the ball and chance creation. But defending is just as important obviously and we were superbly organised today. We are really becoming an effective well drilled outfit. Make no mistake, Fleetwood have the players to get a top 6 spot, and we denied them any chances on target - a team that put four past Hull earlier in the season.

I think our new solidity gives us a great base to work from, and relieves the pressure on the forwards as we rarely need to score more than a couple to win. It's also good that we can change three players and still grind out wins. It's hard to stay calm when we're in this kind of form, and today was further evidence that the second half against Donny was a bad day at the office that all good sides have, and nothing more than that.

Can't wait for the next game....UTMP!

Agree with the post about Sadler identifying weaknesses and acting quickly. Our form since Calderwood came in is no coincidence. SS could see Critchley needed an experienced head to help him and they are working very well together. Critch also deserves credit for forming an effective working relationship with him so quickly and not sulking.

I'd also like to say well done to Tommy Johnson/Ben Mansford/The Transfer Committee. I questioned some of their signings earlier in the season, but they deserve huge credit for identifying and bringing in the likes of Dougall and Ballard; they have made a huge difference on the pitch during this good run.

It's all looking good. I agree with Mosser on another thread about us being in a great position to cherry-pick players from other clubs if needed.

What a time to be a Pool fan!

A very professional display without being spectacular. Every player working hard, playing their part and limiting a good Fleetwood side to little in terms of chances. Dougall was immense, the heartbeat of the team, some really promising signs not just in terms of results and performances but the camaraderie between the players. My Guinness will taste a little sweeter this evening.

Absolutely. Sadler's way is to enable. He appoints a Board and first team coach. They do the planning, development and implementation.

You’re a funny little thing. I simply disagreed with Kurt’s comment. Trust me, it isn’t difficult.

We’re in tier 3, they’re all closed mate
My step-son went into Cleveleys today. He went to the Shipwreck micro-pub and bought a takeaway 4 pint Porter and drank a pint on the pavement outside, along with lots of others doing the same. There's a notice saying 'you can't drink it on our premises or the immediate frontage but (something like) the rest of the pavement is OK - Council permission granted.' Perhaps someone can confirm.
PS. He gave me two pints out of it so happy days.

No Barton interview on Radio Lancs! Cowardy, cowardly custard! 😂
Right I’m off t’ shicker shop. 🍻

They don’t really do message boards. All 10 season ticket holders congregate around a brazier behind this wall chanting “It’s a derby match!!”, chomping on fish sticks and telling each other that Camps is the greatest player of all time, even if you do include Joe Garner in the reckoning.746904F8-D02B-498C-BBDF-AC77219B5209.jpeg

No, its just you being a self imposed arbiter of quality on this board. It’s just constant holier than thou sniping at folk on here.

Blimey, I remember before lockdown when you had to buy a substantial meal, you could get bread and olives there and drink alcohol. Pushing the boundaries I guess.

Mariners Sunday afternoon late 80’s - bowl of chips and 4 pints. Surprised Gary Madine wasn’t in the karaoke

Can you imagine the two of them in centre mid together? Gnasher was the heart beat of our prem team and inspired those around him week in week out. What a pair they would make.
