FAO The SLO

The steelwork & cladding act as a Faraday cage & tend to block 4G or whatever signals you may want. I thought I’d heard the club were addressing this, but I may be wrong.

Just one simple question. WTF is going on with the wi-fi at the ground?

Its a disgrace that in 2023 they still cant get this right...inexcusable.
Early last season (I think?), I e-mailed the SLO about this issue. He replied that the Club are aware of it but because of the many infrastructure issues they have to contend with, it's way down the list to be sorted.

Will cost the club approx £250,000 to install the equipment necessary to give a decent signal inside the stadium. Something which likely has zero benefit to the club themselves and won’t drive revenue.
A lot of bigger clubs have solved the situation by having sponsors or partners install the necessary equipment at no cost to the club.
The club attempted to go down that route with the West stand sponsor however the sponsor failed to provide the service promised.
Quite rightly the club don’t have it high on their list of priorities. If a sponsor came along and were willing to do it, it likely would have happened by now.

The club haven’t updated the tannoy system due to the costs involved. They’re preferring to wait and include it as part of the East stand improvement as that will naturally need a tannoy system installed too. Doing the whole stadium at the same time will be cost effective. Something similar could likely be done with regards to wifi perhaps. No point spending £250k now and then another £150k in 2/3 years if you can just spend £300k once. Similar principles for a lot of planned improvements I imagine.

The East will be a game changer for the whole of BR

If we are relegated then the East stand project wont happen

Not true.

The East development is not linked to onfield success in slightest.

It’s driven by 2 factors. 1 being that the current stand will lose its safety certificate and not be renewed - rendering it derelict and 2 being the new East will be a year round source of revenue to club (regardless of division) which will bring in a seven figure sum above and beyond any figure the East stand can generate from ticket sales alone.

On another matter I notice there have been no police outside the stadium on Bloomfield Rd after the last couple of games (apart from a van at the end of Back Henry Street).

Could easily have kicked off with the wrong scoreline.
Opposing fans crossing home fans with no police presence is a recipe for disaster.

3. The go ahead from the Council involves BFC contributing to the development of Revoe through the construction of sports pitches and facilities around the East Stand.

Frightened to use unauthorised data incase the wife spots a bit of over usage in the monthly bill. Must be hard to live your life under these circumstances, does a mate push you in, in a pram to save you a few quid.

Mobile data seemed to be working a lot better yesterday, even at half-time when it is usually virtually impossible to get latest scores due to number of people trying to access the networks.

Noticed some stuff on a couple of the East Stand stanchions which looked new which I assume was some form of signal amplifier.

Half the people around me seem to get a signal & the rest of us don’t, I’ve been told there’s some kind of blocking system at football grounds, even if I’m outside near the stadium the signal is bad, it’s annoying when you hear people reading the scores out to matés & you just know you’d get a decent cash out on bets with 10 minutes to go

I've always used the NHS Wi-Fi - just register and it's pretty decent on a match day.
BTW - we're not alone .. Man United fans have wi-fi as one of their main gripes about Old Trafford.
Of course that many people in such a close confined space means 4G has little chance.

The NHS one works fine during the week, so nothing to do with 'Faraday cages'.

Fuk me , turn up at 2.55..that way you don’t need to buy a pint of average at best quality beer…due to not buying beer, you then don’t need a half time toilet break…talk for 15 mins at half time with people you go with..then leave at 4.50 after the game…..simple….👍😁

Yayzi, the broadband sponsor we had, said they were going to install their super fast fibre lines in the stadium, however when you checked their availability it wasn't progressing around the town as quick as I expected.

Think maybe they jumped the gun and they soon were no longer the stand sponsors.

So looks like that one went out the window for now.

I think that you’ll find that due to smart phones and wifi that there’s a generation of people that aren’t able to have a conversation. As for 15 minutes at half time no chance 🤣🤣
