Everton League Cup 1980

I was thinking of this today. Anyone go to those two games? League Cup 2nd Round. I wasn't old enough to go to Goodison Park for the 1st leg. Lost 3-0. I think we took a decent turnout as the tie was hyped up with it being at the start of the Alan Ball era, and with him being a former Everton player etc. Our crowds were up at the start of the season as well, with anticipation of a return to Division 2. Yeah right, we know how that went!

Went to the second leg at home drew 2-2. Memorable only, as a 10 year old for seeing a large away following escorted from Blackpool South, past the Waterloo and down Central Drive, dunno if there was any bother home or away? Bumped into Bob Stokoe in the South Stand and got my programme signed. Still got it 😁

I remember the club spending thousands on fences in anticipation of this game, but due to the 0-3 1st leg it was a bit of a damp squid attendance wise,TVR were the match sponsors. As an 8yr old,I surprisingly went to Goodison but not the return leg.

I went to both games. The Goodison game was notable for the little toffee cherrubs gobbing on us from the front of the stand above the terracing.

At the home tie I was playing pool pre-match with friends in the Waterloo. The police told the pub to lock the doors as they were bringing in the Everton fans at South Station. They then marched them around the side of the pub where they kicked and banged on the doors and windows.

If I remember correctly (unlikely, but there you go), wasn't the 2-2 home leg the first game then we got tonked at Goodison 3-0?

Of course, as expected, it was indeed the 3-0 first, then the 2-2..

I went to Goodson but was away for the home leg.
We put up a decent performance and had them on the ropes for a while as they defended a 1-0 lead.
Not until later in the game did we conceded 2 more.

There was outrage before the home leg as they increased admission to a whopping £10.
Many refused to pay.

Was at the 2-2. Memory was of an Everton fan on the kop having a small fluffy pink rabbit which they'd pop up dancing on the fence when they were chanting.

I was there at Goodison that day..... 😒
As was I. Ended up at the Liverpool Bridewell before the match with my mate for an Id lineup where we got the handsome fee of £2 for assisting.

Ended up there after the match after the same mate threw a coin at a gobby Evertonian and poleaxed him.

Luckily, was able to use my 'connections' to get him out with a stern rollicking.

Happy, happy days

Went on the train....buses laid on at Lime st....nobody wanted to pay the 50p to Goodison Park....so the Blackpool fans where escorted to the ground with all the Everton gobshites giving us abuse all the way to the ground....Bob Latchford tore us a new one that day...Remember it well.

I remember a lot of scousers asking what the time was on the walk back to the car
Anyone not answering in a scouse accent got battered

Yeah went to both games as a teenager.
Got driven to Everton by Derek Dearden who had garages in Blackpool at the time, cracking man. Remember being rammed in the stand behind the net.

Went to both games. Had a scouse mate at work, his auntie got tickets for 4 of us for the West stand, always remember it was like watching a game of subbuteo we were that high up!

Went to the away game, missed the away game due to being away from Lancs.
Remember the away game at golf time as there was a wooden fence separating us when you went for refreshments. Gooby Scouser was met with a hot cuppa tipped over the top of the fence.
Had the proverbial "watch yer car mister" parking up and as mentioned oreviously Latchford the main difference- pretty sure he got 2 that night.

Briefly went out with a girl called Leigh from Cleveleys I think who got me tickets for the game at Bloomfield Road but distracted me from the nuances of the second leg.
