England vs India - First test thread

After a dismal 1st innings with bat and ball, for which I was critical, the turn around has been incredible. They've given themselves a great chance of pulling off one of the great overseas victories.

A special mention for West Indies also, what a win and test match that was. It highlights just how much we need to protect the best format of the game.

We had more than a few comments after the first couple of days saying Hartley was out of his depth playing in this his first test match.

Nice little cameo with the bat as well.

I wonder if he’s read this board and got fired up? 🤷‍♂️

Jaffa,

I - like a couple of others - questioned his ability as a Test match bowler. To be fair, that still applies as he needs to add more if he's going to take wickets in all conditions and not just a day 4/day 5 pitch in India. But as an all-round cricketer he's a good player, with a great attitude. He deserves the chance as he's been consistently good for Lancy for a few seasons.

Can't believe what I'm watching here. What a performance. Really hope we do it because they will come back hard next time whatever.

Brilliant turn around from England and every credit to this great test side.

Set up by such a great innings by Pope this England team have been brilliant. The run out from Stokes summed it up.

No matter what happens in this test the series has been set up to be really close.

If Leach was 100% it might be all over by now.

Come on England and really hope Hartley gets his 5 for on debut.

I bet Aus are regretting the decision of declare, unless it was an injury.

Old saying I know but we really need to break this partnership sooner rather than later.

Needing 112 to now 58 is getting rather worrying now even the Indian WAG’s are all smiles again.

I wouldn’t class these two as a tail so to speak - as they can both bat.

After these two we have cannon fodder - famous last words!
Yeah tail was the wrong word but just thought at the time with Hartley bowling they needed more pressure around the bat. They have scored a few more now and looking more comfortable.

We need a wicket 👍

Yep it’s theirs to lose now. Need to get one of these out asap.

Edit - just as I post Hartley does the business.

It's an anti-bazball wicket that's going to explode in the 4th innings. That's if there is a 4th innings. I don't think chasing 150 on it would be fun.
To be fair to India they've done really well to get so many on a difficult wicket after England shelved the bazball in the second innings. Isn't test cricket just wonderful.

Has to be up there? Given the 1st innings deficit and an elite India team. I do hope someone had a cheeky bet at the half way stage, they'll be quids in!
