Do you know how much a Black Slave cost?

Very funny. Note though that not all confederates were pro slavery - many unionists were actually pro slavery. Fascinating to note that some of the largest slave owners from South Carolina and Louisiana were indeed black slave magnates (owning at least 50 slaves).

Antoine Dubuclet for example, was considered the wealthiest black slave owner in Louisiana. He was elected and served as state treasurer during the Reconstruction Era after the war - one of the only black men to hold the office for more than one term. Very interesting biography on this chap.

I can’t watch anything related to Jimmy Saville 😢 but sure it was a good watch if you can get past that 👍

Lala,
It’s only the first couple of minutes using the low life as an analogy. So shut your eyes because the rest of it is eye opening.

PS Hope you’re ok after the recent incident?

Ok I will do 👍
I’m ok thank you. Took a day off today and did some self-esteem boosting stuff. Hate the dark side of life, but onwards and upwards 👍
Got my 10k steps in and painted my toenails 😉 and treated myself to a new book and pj’s 🤣
And took a load of stuff to the charity shop and bought some lovely gifts for my granddaughter.
Am learning how to deal with the aftermath of stress 🤗

Indeed... a knowledgeable friend of mine informed me that across history most "slavery" has involved black "owners" and mostly black "slaves". There is more to the slavery business than just the well known slave triangle (Africa-Americas-Europe). Possibly still today too, in terms of modern slavery tactics.

What, are you diluting the issue of slaves in the Southern States? Cos that's how it comes across.

Err...no.
You know when on another thread today you mentioned that you yourself have been rather "tetchy" on here recently? 🙂
My advice is to calm down and read the actual words written - not what you think they mean.

Lala,
Your self esteem can easily be improved. Just stand in front of a full length mirror, and smile at what you see!

If you want to know more about the actual culprits of slave trading, you could do worse than to read, 'The SlaveTrade' by Hugh Thomas, all. 800 and odd pages of it. Plus facts after the numbered pages.

In answer to the original question, in1440 a horse bought 25 to 30 Slaves in Senegambia, by1864, Slaves cost between 1250 dollars to 1500 dollars.
