“We played with real quality…. it was just our final third that let us down”

The entire thing was a mess on Saturday and epitomised our season.

Grimmy actually in a weird way is a slight detriment to us, he's too good on the ball and he's too easy to give it to. He's better with the ball at his feet than most of the other 10 on the pitch.

Marv/Pennington/Casey/Husband are all very limited on the ball, Husband and Marv seem to find themselves doing long aimless balls with a lack of direction and quality. Hughes for Wigan is a thousand times better than those four and can play with the ball at his feet.

Coulsen/Gabriel, well they have absolutely nothing ahead of them. They're the attacking outlet so if Dembele isn't on or players aren't making runs then guess where they are going, back to the back 3.

Norburn and Byers - Read the same for Coulsen and Gabriel. They have it engrained into them to have their back to the attackers, they can never see where the runs are. 1 because they generally aren't having any made, 2 the quality isn't there from those 2 players to find the ball and 3 it's too easy to just go backwards.

Beesley/Lavery/Rhodes - Too slow from Rhodes POV. He needs players closer around him with better quality. Beesley isn't a League One footballer. Lavery neither. Play both and it looks terrible like it did Saturday.

Joseph - Why is he sat on the bench?

The entire set up is based around Dembele and if you put one or two men on him, he's useless because there's not another attacking outlet. I said this at the start of the season when we did the exact same with Hamilton. If you have ONE creative player on the pitch, you're so easy to play against.

You have far more idea of our problems than the 3 Stooges on the touchline which is very sad as I would wager you don't have a single coaching badge🤦‍♂️

Not the point, do you reckon it's loads of fun wondering if all that money buys 1st or 2nd in the league every single bloody season.

It's probably why they can't fill the ground the council gave them.
If I’m going to be bored, I’d rather be bored near the top than the bottom.

Season on season, every title bought, Guardiola pretending to be some kind of mystical genius, yay we beat Fulham again, oh look there's Noel Gallagher in an anorak pretending he's still working clas....zzzzz
Yup boring as. The sooner those teams phuck off into their sooperdooper world greed league and let football re-govern the better.

I like the struggles and the stupidity, the hope that kills you feeling, I don't like being bored shitless and we all know it will end sooner or later, it always does. What would we have to moan like phuck about?

Would love seeing the wealth and fame it would bring my home town personally. Do you know that Blackburn didn’t have a motorway link to the rest of Britain until they won the Prem? Blackpool would boom again on the back of a successful football team

ah right, so Guardiola is only a great manager because he's got millions of pounds at his disposal and if Critchley had the same he'd be just as good.
There's no denying Guardiola's ability.
At least when it comes to managing ready made squads with billions of pounds to spend.
Lytham nails it in his posts on this thread. Mystical genius 😂
To answer your question though, no I don't think Critchley would be just as good. But with money at his disposal
to buy top quality players I think he'd be better than what he is now. Or at least the team would be better.

any manager would be better with millions at his disposal but It's all relative. Guardiola gets the best out of his players because he knows how to do that. And that can't be said of Critchley. The evidence for that is overwhelming.

I don't disagree with that. I've never doubted Guardiola's ability to get the best out of the top quality world class players at his disposal.
I just wonder if he could get a tune out of a bunch of lower league journeymen.

he'd certainly have them playing to their strengths. Both Guardiola and Critch have the same footballing principles. The theory is that it's all about possession football. But when it comes to practice then that's where Critchley falls way short. Guardiola is at the top of his profession for a reason. Critch will never get close.

With proper coaching, our defence & midfield should be decent.
If only NC could see that we need 3 in the midfield to be more solid and hold possession. I doubt he ever will.
Lavery and Beesley are woefully weak - hoofing up to them is Sunday league footy at best.

thought so! So you wrote a load of bollox then.
This place needs a sarcasm font, for the benefit of those who can't quite pick it up normally.

I'm going to Derby wondering if it's going to be one of those days when we play to our best and win, or phone in another Wigan performance. You know what you get with City.

It's that inconsistency that makes us a League One club and not the best footballing side in the world.

It's never boring as a consequence.

Grimmys distribution is very hit and miss, many of his long balls end up it touch. As for Joseph, he's on the bench because he's a no 9 who doesn't score goals and is shot shy.

Might not be boring mate but it’s getting to the stage of being draining

Which is what I was trying to say

which one of the stooges is the enforcer. shouty boy no do doubt . no better than a seventies pe teacher. who was a total c..t .

That first half against Wigan was boring! And it wasn’t just our final third either!
Agree Clappers but we dominated the second half but could not put the ball in the net despite numerous opportunities.
Would Rhodes have converted some of those chances? Being a natural goal scorer you would think so but sadly that is academic.
I know quite a few Wigan fans and they feared the worst in the second half, but that never materialised.
From that aspect Critch is right about letting ourselves down in the final third but surely he’s not responsible for the players missing their chances.?
The big problem now is that the more Critch keeps serving up the same fare then he will lose any faith that anyone still has in him BUT, a win at Derby will change opinions yet again, but for how long?
Anyway, I was having a drink with a few Bolton mates over the weekend and although they got beat they didn’t rate Derby at all and the goal Derby scored was clearly hand ball.
