Digital Tickets

Although I'm now in my 8th decade I'm quite happy to go along with modern technology and get my season ticket with this digtal method. Please excuse me if this is a silly question but can some kind soul answer this question : is getting a season ticket on a smart phone just a one-off process or do you have to 'down;load' a ticket for each home game ?

One off.

Presume we will receive an email or a link on the eticketing system to download onto phones nearer the start of the season. Once it’s on your phone it will stay on there.

Out of interest, if you can't attend a game, can someone else download the app and put your details in (whether this is allowed or not!!).

Many are going bananas about not being able to.

So one would assume not.

But I find that extremely hard to believe.

Even if you can't transfer the details, surely you can just screenshot the bar code or something?

When I renewed last week I asked the question ?
You will need to go to the ticket office before the game you can’t attend & transfer that game to a paper ticket (no cost I was told) - then pass the paper ticket to whoever is going instead of you.

Few years ago now, but several people on here used to share ST and cost. I bet they are in turmoil in having to pay the going rate to watch a match.

Here we go again...
The new ticket works in the same way as a debit card installed on your phone. You'll tap it in. No barcode. It uses NFC like a bank card.
It will be simple to install it on more than one device, but bear in mind that it will only be able to be used once for admission per match, in the same way as if you printed off or photocopied multiple copies of the same barcoded ticket. so be careful who you let have it on their phone.

Can people read this so we don't have to keep having this debate over and over.

There should be a pinned thread on how the STs work. It’s incredible how much speculation and nonsense people spout. It’s just NFC. It’s nothing clever.

I asked yesterday, lad said we’ll get an email, you save the linked ticket into the wallet on your phone and that automatically updates each game. Just flash it upto the reader like your old season ticket card

Sorry but this is a major own goal. A large proportion of our fan base are of the older generation (I sit in the west stand so I know)

All this you get an email and you do x y z to download an i ticket is daunting for me in my 50’s
How would my dad in his 80’s cope- simple answer is he won’t. And lots like him.

And many won’t pay the £20 tax on being old and not having a smart phone out of principle and I don’t blame them

I usually miss around a quarter of games due to holidays and give my ticket to my dad or my lad to use

Going into the ticket office to transfer to a paper ticket? Really? Just not going to happen

I’d urge the club to reconsider

As above, install your ticket on their phone, as well as yours.

It can be used once per game. No issue.

If easier for you / them - pay the £20.

Not ideal, but not really a big issue.

So @Tangerine Tractor - am renewing later this week and so just to be clear you can download this ticket on multiple phones but can only be used once per game. We have 'family tickets' and were going to buy cards but this sounds a solution?

As far as I'm aware, yes.
I was also led to believe that once the tickets are issued, if you have a real genuine reason for needing a card, rather than just preferring it for convenience, there will be some discretion applied.

The technology it uses isn’t a barcode

He doesn’t have a smart phone. There will be plenty of older supporters who don’t
I maintain it’s a bad decision
As others have said I already have a ST card so why should I pay £20 for a new one
It’s basically a tax on the elderly and tech averse fans

Last seasons cards are not compatible with the new scanners we were told at the ticket office. So are obsolete.

Sorry for my incomplete reply, physical tickets should be available, at the standard price of £369, but for those that move to digital a £20 discount should have been given.

Similar principle, would've resolved most of the complaints.

It’s just a cost reflective cost for the use of an older and less efficient / more expensive system. If those who choose to use the ‘more expensive’ system aren’t to pay for it, then who should?

Should the rest of us be forced to pay for a system we don’t need?

Should Simon just pay for it out of his own pocket?

Maybe we could reduce the player budget ?

And if there’s no cost differential, then what’s the incentive for anyone to change ? And if nobody changes what then?

Should the club miss out on the huge advantages that this new system offers, thereby putting us at a significant disadvantage vs other clubs?

The club should recognise the reality of its customer base

i know you won't have a definitive answer but I'd say only having a pay as you go phone is a genuine reason so I'd hope that discretion will be applied to me.

As I keep saying, let's wait and see what the outcome is before leaping to all kinds of blame on the club.

I would think that not having a capable phone will be a valid reason.

No. Once you've installed any card or ticket on your phone, is doesn't require a data connection. It's like putting your debit card on your phone, works exactly the same way. It just uses the NFC chip built into your phone instead of the one on a card.

I believe it’s just one phone. My mate who has a carer has to down both on his phone, because he has a different carer.

If it's going in your Google wallet or whatever, then you can register a card on multiple phones at the moment, so there's no reason why you wouldn't be able to do the same with a season ticket.
People are reading a hell of a lot more into this than there really is. Millions of people have all sorts of payment and loyalty cards on their phones. This is just another, using the same system.
Often, there's just a link to click to install on your phone.
There will always be people who don't like me technology, or have issues for some reason. There will be solutions, they're always is. Blackpool FC is a very inclusive and forward looking organisation. People are stressing out before they even know what the issues are.

Really helpful. Perhaps you’ll pop round and show my 85 year old dad how to download his e-ticket 🤡
Sorry, but you dad isn't my concern.

What none of the e-ticket moaners understand is that they are a tiny minority. 95% of supporters don't give a shit, and probably welcome having one less thing to carry around. Most of the posts on the subject from people who love to play the victim. But it's just so tedious to read the 50th thread on the subject. The club aren't going to change policy, and nor should they. Put up or shut up.

The club should recognise the reality of its customer base
Maybe the ‘Customer Base’ should recognise the reality of life in 2023 and the need for the Club to embrace technology.

They’ve put in place an alternative to accommodate anyone who can’t use the new system. That alternative is more expensive … and it’s absolutely right that the people who need to use the more expensive system should pay for it.

We’ll have to agree to disagree on this one BFC3
And any change that requires fans to “put up or shut up” isn’t a good change in my opinion cside
Especially after a relegation

There is a simple solution to all these questions to quash all this reading too much into this. That is for the club to give some details and maybe try communicating with its customers to alleviate their fears and suspicions. Its what any normal business would do.

I don't understand or know what this NFC thing is and don't use google wallet. Im not objecting to using it i just haven't needed to in the past. I can see the benefit of having my season ticket on my phone I just want to know how its going to work on my phone. I'm not desperate enough to send an email to the club and will wait until the club decides to tell us and then is there is a problem I will have to communicate with the club to sort it out.

My only concern is how i switch from my ticket to my grandsons ticket on my phone when trying to get in. especially after fumbling about for my glasses so i can see what I'm doing when I've just sank 6 pints and desperate to get to the urinal with my dodgy prostate....

I find it a bit odd that if i want to exchange or upgrade my ticket I can go into the club and be given a paper ticket at no extra cost. If we are going digital why not issue a digital ticket for the upgraded ticket.

Maybe the technologically illiterate should recognise the reality of their situation and try to learn something new?
at least the "technologically illiterate" have the ability to learn something new whereas the brain dead illiterate don't.

No it’s a discount to encourage a younger more tech-friendly crowd. They’re the ones who can’t afford to be on holiday for a large part of the season 👍

Exactly. The OP of this thread was willing to learn something new. Good for him. It’s the moaning victims who are just so helpless which I can’t stand.
