Crime does not pay?

53 million gbp stolen from universal credit by a gang of 5 Bulgarians.
Maybe we need to pay for some more investigators, cos the system does not appear very secure
Spot on, and can we have an even bigger team to investigate the billions removed by COVID, PPE and Test and Trace fraud. And then an even bigger team to look at the non dom tax avoiders resident in the UK, and off shore tax affairs of MPs and media Barons.

54 million between 5 of them. Just think where that money could have been chanelled instead. NHS and other public services.
I hope they get very long sentences. Greedy lying ******** !

Around about 10 times that is paid out in error which combined with fraud is some 11 billon, 19 billion of benefits every year goes unclaimed so we're still up on the deal. Using an outlier to make a generalisation is a bit daft.

If only such teams hadn't been decimated as an 'efficiency' over the last decade or so.

It’s not like they are going to pocket the lot and swan off into the sunset.

We had trust and protect during COVID to ensure the majority of law-abiding honest citizens got their money in a timely fashion. But there was always an intent to revisit the fraudsters abusing the benefit systems.

Proceeds taken off them of course and no future recourse to benefits.
Only those proceeds the police find, and with millions stashed they do not need benefits, but they were doing it using other people's details and fake ids so pretty sure they will continue to have an illegal recourse to benefits.
