Cheer up Sir Keir we are coming out of a dreadful two years!!

It's political points scoring I've been listening to those on the left for a few days they won't admit the got it massively wrong(Scotland and Wales a prime example)with Omicron and all want to keep restrictions in place.

At what point do we try and get some normality back and learn to live with this virus answers on the back of a postcard as they haven't a clue.

Personally II think it would have been helpful and sensible to keep the ONS testing survey going at least for a while.
That would have given us a good idea about what was still going on, and maybe helped to pick up any new variants quickly.

You wait until the next variant arrives, just as the boosters are wearing off. That might kick our arses. I hope they haven’t overlooked that possibility.

The main thing I think they may have got wrong is withdrawing the free testing facility on 1 April, other than for the very elderly and vulnerable. Irrespective of whether isolation is mandatory or not, testing can give a good indication of the extent of remaining infection rates and the voluntary decision of individuals to isolate if they feel there is a risk to themselves or others. Most people will only test if the kits are free. I woild have kept the free test kits in place for another couple of months, to say June

I think the logic is that they expect case numbers to be low by April, so that's as good a time as any to end free testing, presumably they'll still be available for those with symptoms.

No they won’t be free, unless to pensioners. There are noises that the Govt only want to charge a “low single figure price” for a test kit. So that will be £9 each then.

After the massive panic stations in December all the news reports I’m seeing from doctors and medical staff now is that Covid is not causing many serious cases at all?

There’s no point haemorrhaging cash any further over this variant. If a new one that’s stronger comes along we will know about it soon enough and can turn the tap back on again.

If not - divert those millions from testing into getting all the other thousands of illnesses treated. Spend that cash on early testing for cancer

Or maybe let the employer cop the bill if folk are that worried, bulk buying won't be 9 quid a time?

Why would you test yourself everyday?
So if want to do a test it costs less than a pint or around a takeaway Coffee so yes £3 is nothing.
Like I said above up to employers to pay for testing if they want but it has to end the country picking up the tab the money is better spent elsewhere.

IIRC, the government was paying something like £12/test for the LF kits, although prices might've dropped over time.

Presumably without any political points scoring...
Wiz,
We can sleep safe now; safe in the knowledge that Boris led his cabinet and government to victory.
Many of his close acolytes told their close buddies (alma mater from the days they boarded together) to give contracts; they obeyed and acted like pigs at the trough. Johnson, Cameron and their Bullingdon club crew will all be telling each other how well they have done.
Cameron's Greensill; Hancock, the groper and mate of his local pub landlord no longer need to take a suitcase to buy booze for a No 10 'working meet up'

The footnote is... Look up who supplies the lateral flow test packs.

Boris is a clever fkr regardless of your thoughts .Yet again got working people spouting support for him.Good ol' Bozza, highly privileged, entitled but makes us laugh ...here's my vote ,born to rule etc
Fking unbelievable- forget the lies, disrespect, cronyism and incompetence he's our posh lad and best of British

Starmer should have smashed this goon out of the ground but let's Boris boss the narrative.

People are fking sick of covid and restrictions .Boris picks up the populist pulse yet again - Covid is all over ,various the doom mongers want you hide away ,Britain is back get well ma'am ,over and out

Starmer left wringing his hands ,spouting negativity, wrong footed again. Just wish he would be a fking man and go for the gonk, your a top lawyer

They definitely should keep the ONS survey, we make 50 quid a visit.

Scientists advice is to save yourself Boris. Why not scrap all restrictions and gamble on people not dying in droves? Might take some of the heat off you.

Got his mojo back Boris. Good to see now he can crack on with levelling up and romping home in the next general election

What restrictions would you have kept then?
Or when would you have changed them?

Spring is around the corner you need to start now in the better months windows open people outside and crack on because before you know it we'll be back into Autumn and into another Flu season.

Nobody is forcing anyone to go into work if ill or stopping from wearing a face mask but keeping fit healthy people from going about their normal life is ludicrous even the Queen is working with Covid.

I don't think it's unreasonable for people with a highly infectious disease to isolate for a few days.

Removing that restriction is getting Boris' herd immunity with bells on.
Nothing to stop them no employer is going to make you go to work if you've Covid.

Herd immunity has been happening anyway and is the best way out of this pandemic should have been done from the start not locking us all up.

Can you not just do that yourself?

Or do we need someone to tell us?

And if it was as bad as people still think it is, I don’t think you would be up for leaving the house anyway would you?

After 2 years, it’s time grown adults act grown up.

Plenty of employers will insist you come in. It happens with all kinds of illnesses.

Are you saying that some employers don't make people come in when they're unwell?

Of course they do. Plus some people will go in when they really shouldn't because they can't afford to stop at home, as our sick pay regime is light years behind most of Europe.

If your ill no they won't it happens everyday people who feel fine go into work it's only they have to as they can't live of the basic 90 a week sick money and that's happening today before these new measures are even brought in.

That’s another argument though isn’t it?

Some people couldn’t afford to have their businesses closed or they couldn’t afford to have their ability to earn money due to pointless non-scientific restrictions, didn’t see your energy for that as much as this?

This “infectious disease” is now pretty much the common cold and employers, employees and everybody else can now use personal responsibility to assess their day to day risks and decide themselves how to operate on a daily basis.

We do not need any restrictions in place, we are adults.

It's not a different argument, it's inextricably tied in.

They got subsidies for sitting about doing nothing. If they'd declared their actual income in previous years, in many cases they would have received a lot more.

I understand that Wiz, but those employers will reap their own poor harvest if they’ve got a team full of wheezing, broken staff with terrible productivity.

If you’re genuinely Ill, you’re feck all use at work. There’s a difference between someone with a scratchy throat and a cough able to carry on, and those genuinely struggling with a cold, flu, chest infection or Covid who can barely walk from the entrance to the staff toilet.

Time for big boy pants I reckon. My wife worked from home with Covid. She could have gone in the office I guess and spread the disease? Last summer she had a chest infection and was absolutely not able to work at all never mind from home.

😂 What a bizarre statement.

Have you considering people who were employed somewhere but couldn’t work there as they were closed?

Very tunnel visioned naive world you’re in there, where your pay hasn’t been impacted and you’ve just carried on without any financial impact.

They will, true enough, but there will be millions having to work because the boss says so.

Thank you doctor for your wisdom.
