Charlton Athletic v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 07.10.23

Most of the fans on their message board are writing us off tomorrow. I can’t say I’m feeling particularly optimistic. Feels like last season in that we do have quality in the squad but that we aren’t consistent enough and it’s not being utilised effectively. Having said that, a win could put us into the top 6. 1-1 Jordan Rhodes goal

Come on critch play right team... what odds he will play rhodes... kouassi and demebele 🤔 now that would be attacking intent.

Just get them attacking and not just soak up pressure... we need to get one over on appy

Starting a holiday this weekend. Ticket bought, train booked and I've managed to test positive for covid, which seems to be running rife again. What's even worse is that I almost certainly picked it up after driving 70 miles each way for last Tuesday's shambles. When it rains..... 😖

I think Chartons unbeaten run flatters them. I can see us winning this one. We play better against the teams that will attack us.

Carey? He must have something on Crich!!
At present the poorest player to Don a BFC shirt in years. Maybe he will suprise me.UTMP!!
Thompson at least showed some spirit at Wolves

Sorry, I just do not rate Sonny Carey. Weir would be a better option, especially that Norburn and Dougall are in the middle.

Managed to finish work early, so happy about that. Not sure Lavery and Rhodes work up front together but guess we'll see today. Shame Dale has missed out, hope things are okay for him but it gives Thommo a chance to claim his place. What's happened to Lyons? He played in the development team and got a head injury, is that keeping him out or is he still not mentally right following the loss of his dad?

Charlton will play well for about 5 to ten minutes in each half. As long as we can standup to those periods should be ok. Based on past experience Charlton will probably be very disorganized at the back and in midfield so might be some joy there

To be fair would even prefer Morgan ahead of Carey. Against his old club with something to prove.

But yeah Carey shouldn’t be getting a look in.

Oh boy where to start ……. I like the back 3 ….but Carey and Thompson? Not starting Kouassi? I think it could be a difficult watch - please prove me wrong lads!!

Said it on the other thread. CJ has given him the Critch pics.

Shame no Kouassi. He holds it up well for wing backs to get up there in this god awful system we seem married to. Welcome Thompson into the team as he’s always looking to go forward and may be better suited to the system than a back 4. Need to win this to keep in touch given the games coming up!

Certainly been underperforming I agree but I see a real player in there. Played in the right position (no 10) and consistently, I think he could be almost Peter Beardsley’esk

If we have any ambition at all of getting anywhere near the promotion places we need to start showing some intent, we're already 12/10 points behind the top two
