Charlie Kirk claxon

I stand by my comment when Critchley first returned that I’d be happy with this. He was solid in a team that survived comfortably in the Championship. He defends and attacks. Can put in a decent cross and has a good set piece. He’s not Josh Bowler but he is something we’re desperately in need of.

I agree, not a bad player at all. No frills but good distribution of the ball .

An undisputed football genius upon who our fortunes will doubtless turn as he quite slowly goes down the left, doesn't really beat anyone and if conditions are right (i.e. he's in acres of space throughout the time he has the ball) whips a perfect ball in.

I actually quite like him despite the above.

It's the most predictable thing ever tho.

I know it would be right footed on the left side again, but Kirk would be a good LWB. And he is naturally a left sided player.

Get Longman on the opposite and all of a sudden we’d have some serious League One creativity.

The point is we are in need of someone who can put crosses in as we have nothing on the flanks for our strikers, he can do this, I wasn’t his best fan but from Critchleys clinical point of view he will bring him in if a deal can be struck.

If you look at positively...

Kirk does have the attribute to address the fact we've dominated a game in terms of passing and possession and lost it badly because we're unable to actually put the ball into a dangerous area from a wide position. We get the ball to those wide positions but we don't deliver quality.

He's extremely good at that.

Just nowt else.

It could work. We'll see. Ideally you have a player with some of Kirk's quality delivery AND some pace/trickery and strength. To sign that at this level is perhaps dreaming in this age of Premier League clubs having about 6 or 7 players (at least) in their set ups for each position.

I had really hoped for a more dynamic approach to signings than 'there's always some lads who used to be at Crewe' but there we are...

Charlie Kirk: Football genius.

He was ok for us, but his time in league one was excellent, as is with a lot of our squad.
It would be a sensible signing, won’t set the world alight but it gives us something we currently don’t seem to have - a set piece specialist and a crosser of the ball who doesn’t just get his head down and kick it into the box, but actually looks where his team mates are…

So was Feeney but he got over 10 assists for us.
It’s a bit Moneyball, but we are struggling under this formation and management, so if he fits that style then ok.
I’ve a horrible feeling this isn’t going to end well though.

getting Longman will be the problem

Fair point well made. Feendog was decent in that respect for sure. Led the entire country in assists at one point didn't he?

Feeding Super Gnands.

GET GNANDS BACK!!!!

I’m always wary about these “Blackpool about to sign” articles online, we never seem to sign a player when the interest has become public and then the club want more money, or the player gets offered to half a dozen other teams etc.
He would be a good acquisition.

lol, it made me chuckle when Gnands went to play in some European league despite getting about 12 goals for us in league one. We should’ve marketed him as being the next Ronaldo. Missed a trick there 😂😂

Believe it was the Turkish 2nd Division tbf so not a huge jump in class - but definitely more money (although not sure he actually got paid!)). But after his spell there and a brief time at Hearts he’s settled well back in France. I understand he was top goal scorer and got a move up a division the Ligue 2

He is good at corners, but he never beat his man. Sorry but it does sound a bit like a cheap option, barrel scraping, and Charlton’s new manager may want to look at him before selling. We certainly do not want another player who hates tackling, heading, and running.

Not a horrible signing by any means.

Was one of Charlton’s standout players in pre season with 4 goal involvements (I know it doesn’t mean much, but also doesn’t mean nothing).

Very curious how he will be deployed; does NC see him as a LWB or a winger to change the shape of the team?

Will be interesting if we get Longman too as he typically plays as a RW, are both these signings an indication of a potential change of shape?

Only problem with Kirk is, his fitness. Has played fuck all games for Charlton this season as in minutes. He's not fitted for a wing back role, hasn't the stamina
I fear the worst with players with only a few minutes on the pitch signing for us, especially when put straight onto the subs bench. They are injuries waiting to happen.
🧡UTMP🧡

Perhaps Critch is looking to fuse him and CJ together to create a Frankenstein winger?

With CJ’s pace and Kirk’s technical ability we’d have an unstoppable player on our hands..
It would of course go horribly wrong in the medical room and we'd get CJ's technical ability and Kirk's pace. And a flat head with Kirk's face on the front and CJ's on the back.

Feels like we'll sign Kirk cos we've no awareness of other possible options. Scouting seems pretty minimal?

Not a bad signing but hardly inspirational. As to those suggesting he could be a wing back, the first attribute of a wing back is pace and the ability to play box to box. He has none of the first and I'm not sure about the second. His man attribute is his crossing I agree with IBT above.

It's a fine signing but it's not sensational.

He can pass the ball a heap tonne better than CJ though who gives it away far far too often so he'd still start over him for me.

It's a wow signing in terms of 'wow, do really not look beyond a certain set of players when we're trying to decide who to sign?'

I actually think he'll moderately improve our options and address slightly some of weaknesses but that he's also perhaps symbolic of a few things and that creates a certain baggage/response.

Critch is all for giving young players a chance - young players from Crewe age groups of the past 😂

Reaction from charlton fans tells you all you need to know , just reminder they finished 10th last season 0 ambition from the club again View attachment 16385
How many times do a set of fans slate a player and then that players goes on to do well? Sometimes a players just doesn't suit a club and that's all their is too it. I thought he was decent for us in the Championship. He isn't a flashy player, but he had a good cross on him, gets into good positions, rarely gives the ball away and is decent with set pieces. It's not a wow signing, but I'm not unhappy with it.

He's basically the other end of the 'flawed winger' spectrum to CJ... all touch and no pace.
And, just to introduce another variation to this insightful observation, would it not be fair to make the point that, through a bizarre twist, because of the 'limitations' in his game, Blackpool home fans, in their utter bewilderment, and amongst a host of other grievances, are also starting to complain of being totally 'floored' by the decision to maintain CJ's place in the matchday starting line-up ...

So, CJ, if you're ever starting to feel a little isolated whilst out on the pitch during home games, at least you can always hold onto the consolation that you're not alone in being flawed/floored ...
