Channel Re-Tune

Anyone else had issues?

We’ve lost all BBC Channels🙄

I lost the non-HD ones in the last re-tune so relied on HD ie 101/102 etc but now lost them as well on all TV’s ( not checked BT box yet )

Any suggestions ?

Yes re-tune required last night - ours was the other way and lost HD channels, right before The Repair Shop too grrrr!

Mine doesn’t pick up any of the ITV channels. Wouldn’t mind as I rarely watch live TV nowadays but if I walk 50 yards to Lytham Green I can see Winter Hill where it gets transmitted from!!
Seems there's loads with the same issues
Looking at facebook most seem to say just keep re-tuning and eventually it should sort
Will have to try again tonight
Seems a lot of messing about going on to add thousands of channels that no one watches

If you’re using a signal booster to help with channels, then if that booster is old it could be the problem. It might not be able to receive the new frequencies.

I’ve re-tuned 4 or 5 times with no success. I’ll just stick to ITV, C4 & C5 hubs if I want to watch something live, which is rare.

Was it ok after you did it ?

I'm talking after re-tune - I had nothing before
Yes it was fine TAM - I thought I had done something wrong on the remote as I tried watching BBC 1 HD and got a no signal, but was ok on "normal" BBC 1 - once I'd done the re-tune after the Repair Shop finished (1st world problems indeed having to endure grainy old normal tv) everything seemed to be back to normal, well, all the usual rubbish was back on so it was over to Netflix and last of the Umbrella Academy in glorious 4K!

I don’t really get so this modern stuff but all the TVs in our house were fine all virgin media, but to have a pop at Tam is a bit childish. what is a minor problem for some could well be a major problem for some else. I went to my parents house yesterday as I do every day at the moment. My mum is in the her final days/weeks of MND ☹️☹️and my dad has dimentia🙁 I spent ages yesterday trying to re tune their tv, believe me for them it was a major issue🙁

I don't live in Blackpool but we had a community message a couple of days ago about a re-tune being required if your aerial was using the Grants Tower transmitter at Ramsbttom.
Sounds a bit last century to me. 😀

The re tuning should work for most people in Blackpool but some older group c/d aerials may not receive some of the channels and a w/b aerial will be needed. The frequencies have changed in readiness for 5 G transmissions and there is some form of a help line which supposedly offers help and possibly a free aerial upgrade .

If anyone has any issues post retune give the Freeview helpline a call and they will send an engineer such as myself to sort your issues for free. You may have to wait upto a week though. If you can't wait that long give me (Northern Aerials) a call and I'll send one of the lads round A.S.A.P to get it sorted for you 👍

Auto-tune sometimes does not pick up the strongest signal for some channels. We now have very poor reception for the Really (17) channel, it’s all pixelated and jerky. Before Wednesday it was excellent. Some TVs may have a way of manually tuning individual channels to get the best picture. A case of RTFM.

We had it last night in the place we’re staying at in the Yorkshire Dales. Tried a few times with no joy. Eventually tried the time honoured trick of turning it off and on and trying again, that worked!

We had the same down here a couple of months ago, returned both pvrs and one is fine and the other lost some hd channels.

TAM, buy a decent TV yer tight git and it will automatically re-tune itself 😜

Failing that go in to settings and go through the installation in set up and you should have them all back on in around ten minutes.

We have freeview in the bedroom and the reception has been steadily getting worse for last few months, despite regular tuning, and in certain weather conditions absolutely terrible. Since the upgrade and re-tune the reception is top notch. I am not in Blackpool though.

Did a re-tune for an elderly neighbour yesterday - took about 3 minutes to sort, which was surprising given the age of their TV set.!!!!
Re-tuned kitchen analogue Tv today and again was 5 minute job through menu set up.
TVs seem to auto update if linked up through sky box .

One of the ones I’m having a problem with is top grade - our newest TV
I think it’s down to the fact it’s aerial connected

I always watch through SKYQ but I thought I’d have a quick check for you lads as I do have the tv connected to an aerial also. All my channels are fine which may be as Raging Bull suggests because my Sony tv does an automatic re-tuning?

Anyway as Bedford says above loss of tv channels will be a huge issue for many people, especially the elderly and alone ...it’s some people’s only company ..which may be very sad but it’s true.....it was for the majority of the day for my beloved Grandma before she passed away

Certain older T.Vs can't handle all the new information that they are being asked to process and will simply not find all the channels. Similarly some older grouped aerials will also fail to pick up certain multiplexes which each host 6 - 30 channels. 4G filters are sometimes requires as the 4G signal can cause all sorts of problems with the signal. All the work being carried out at the moment is to accommodate 5G into the bandwidth.

If you go on the Freeview UK website and enter your postcode and click the detailed view button it will give you the list of channels to manual tune. In most cases this should sort it 👍

That’s the problem with having an aerial up Ramsbottom the signal is shiîte

This is a freeview update which comes through a Digital signal that your home aerial picks up.

Sky comes through a Geo stationary satellite, god knows how many miles up in the Sky(including BBC/ITV etc)

BT and netflix come through that line that comes to your house originally installed for your home telephone years ago.

the only thing that can be effected by this are your Aerial based channels and the TV's that rely on that aerial connection

Doesn't really help sort the dodgy tuning issue but it's a conversation piece while you're sat round a blank screen. 😀

Had a problem with the main TV but sorted it out eventually.
The other 2 smaller ones we had a little trouble with, but now more or less sorted.
However on one of them we still get that bloody message coming up each time we switch on but press the Yellow button and it disappears.
MrsDP has the main tv whilst I have the others for watching the snooker.🙄

The last 3 nights have not been conducive for an aerial based retune due to weather and atmospheric conditions. Best time would be early morning assuming no storms.
