Bromley v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 04.11.23

Pretty comfortable win at the end of the day, typical Critchley second half keeping hold of what we had, we stopped playing forward quickly and looked the poorer for it.
Still into the second round, can't say fairer than that, let's hope for a decent draw, for once!

The second half was clearly our B team, off the back of playing a match only 3 days ago. Got through comfortably in the end and that’s that. Even when we win 2–0 some fans are going mental, it’s very bizarre and achieving nothing positive for the club.

Comfortable win, but bloody hell, they are non league, why not have a go at them second half?
Can't see us getting anything at Bolton if we play like we did second half.
I'm bored with watching Critchleys tactics, you go to football to be entertained, for your team to have go.
Another day Bromley could have had the breaks and got a draw.

Potential banana skin avoided.
We took our chances, they didn't.
For once it was a match that I wasn't looking at through my fingers for the last 10 minutes.
League 1 class prevailed.
And it was their manager who said we had more class all over the pitch.

If we carry on asking Dale to defend, we will not win the amount of games needed. At the same time we need Dale going forward for creativity. Catch 22 but just an example of how shit this formation is.

Played Fleetwood Wed. Travel few hundred miles to play on a plastic pitch. Avoid injuries. Not bad.
A valid point about no injuries and a tiring game on Wednesday. We did sit back too much though, Albie Morgan was practically on top of our defence for most of that half. I get we want to conserve energy and hit teams on the break but lumping it up to Beesley, who was quite frankly hopeless, is poor. I want to see us show much more quality and class on the ball. Credit to Marv, the defence and Dougall though, I thought they were excellent.

Professional job at a place where we could have easily slipped up with some great football first half.
There's always gonna be some moaners but I'm happy with that.
Yes, I understand that. But it is also true that we seem to play one half of attacking football and one half of defending for our lives. That does not make for a good performance. A league club would have scored those second half chances and we'd be nursing our bruises...again!

Critchley admitting there that we stopped playing and made it more difficult for ourselves 2nd half.

A mentality thing.

Need to stop sitting back when ahead and only he can solve it.

But we're not so I'm happy.

We will have our best available XI at Bolton and it's a very different type of game with different expectations. Wins boost confidence. We didn't concede. Dembele Marv and Lavery all had confidence boosting performances. Lyons got back into the fold. Morgan got to play in a position he may be needed next week. Did well first half.

Weird post match interview with Critchley. He seems genuinely confused about the bad second half performances and labelled it a 'mentality' thing that they need to work on. Do the orders to sit back and the substitutions not come directly from him? Are the players sitting back in the second half of their own accord?

Shame he got interviewed by the commentator and not by Appleton

I take the point ..but you would be poor if the ball is just wellied up front ...somewhere roughly close to you, with not another player within 10 yards

Slightly weakened starting eleven. Did the business 1st half. 2 scored, none conceded and the keyboard warriors, most of whom have never seen a game in the flesh, moan.
Well done Marv, delighted for you.
Is Critchley one of them as he said much the same.

None conceded but due to more luck than skill.

Terrible 2nd half, anyone can see that.

I am leaning towards him still capable of guiding us to a top 6 finish, if we fail then we look again, if we slide down badly (which we won't) then we need to stick with the devil we know, I would rather it took 4 seasons to get us as a decent Championship side under Critchley than keep chopping and changing, so even if we don't reach the play offs this season we should stick with him rather than keep chopping and changing. Experienced assistant is a must though.

It won't stop me berating him on a match day though in the emotional heat of the moment, that's football.

That's what I posted last week after the Cod's game, so I have been true to form! 😂😂

I think the Bromley manager, chairman etc show how the further down the league pyramid you go the more humble and likeable a club is, it was the same with Eastbourne. Made me happy to hear them both and their views on the game, it gets more snide and entitled as the stakes are higher and the gloss of top flight footballl has been damaged over the last 30years, there was a lot to be said for simpler times.
