Blackpool v Wigan Official Matchday Thread 02.09.23

Ah.

Very appropriate though.

Leaves us in the lurch in 2022, and then comes back and serves up shit for football, because he's too stubborn to consider alternatives.

At the last chance saloon before today's game.

Very fortunate for him that his players bailed him out today.
Bet you were desperate for us to lose. Knob

Enjoyed today. I appreciate what the stats say but until the last 10 minutes I felt fairly relaxed. I just got the feeling that second goal wasn't going to come, so when we tried to shore up I could understand the change in approach. But we definitely weren't clinging on for the majority of the second half like we were against say Reading last year. Great to see a goal in the north at last as well.
Maybe I am being harsh but pretty much every time they didn't win the ball their players went to ground. They were consistent I suppose! Oh, and some interesting interaction between Mr Tickle and our fans at the end lol

What’s the saying, better to be lucky than good’.

To be fair it happens with most teams that are leading in a close game.

Today I don’t care, loved the win so all good and well done to the players, manager, fans & SS👏

good game, CJ had a blinder, rhodes was quality, the wigan goal was inevitable, just inviting too much pressure.

our winner was just so well worked, really good movement. if not for their keeper we could have had six today

. . . . . . but . . . . . .

still playing this inverted wing back shit. it just doesnt work. we only threatened down the right all game, get someone down the left who can actually play down the left and we could actually rip this league apart.
Hamilton on one wing and Dembele on the other will do for me

We played really well today and thoroughly deserved our win. Great run by CJ Hamilton for the early goal and well taken by Jordan Rhodes, getting himself in front of the centre half to knock it in. Wigan were repeatedly forced backwards in the first half, and spent an enormous amount of time keeping the ball in and around their goal area. No wonder we only had 30% possession in the first half, but it seemed a lot more at the game. The second half followed the same path until the defensive substitutions enabled Wigan to attack us more often. It was a real sickener when the Wigan equaliser came just before the 90th minute.
It looked to me that the Pool players as much said, "Sod the instructions, let's go out and get a winner." We were all over them and Kenny Dougall finished off a good move after their keeper had managed to keep us out a couple of times. A few minutes of tension later, we had won 2-1.
WHAT A MAGIC RESULT.

I thought Virtue played really well when he came on. He's a big unit now and very hard to push off the ball which was seen in one of his midfield runs. I'd prefer him over Morgan all day long.
I have got to agree. Morgan has still to convince me.
