Blackpool v Portsmouth Official MatchNight Thread 01.12.20

Brilliant team performance. We looked so solid at the back. I haven't had chance to look back on the match thread but I would be staggered if there wasn't mention for Kaikai. How frustrating is he! I don't want to dwell on it too much as it takes the shine away from what was a fantastic performance.

Well done Mr Critchley. I wasn't convinced when I saw that line-up but dare I say it, he out thought a seasoned football league manager there.

Onwards we go. A very happy seasider tonight!

No, I don't. I felt he had a good game and was one of our better player. But he loses the ball so often for a league one footballer. And I think Gabriel is better. By a substantial distance better too. Would be unfair to go on about him tonight. As the whole squad deserve that win, it was fantastic.
We haven't seen Gabriel get tested defensively yet apart from the Ipswich game where he was thrown in too soon - Turton was really good tonight, no ifs or buts. The whole team did well - Husband included.

Well done Mr Critchley. Mr 62 will be along soon to congratulate you.

Have to admit doubted us tonight but things finally starting to fall into place, in Critch we trust. Quality result that

That was a great team performance, created chances and looked solid at the back too! Lots of excellent individual performances as well from Dougall, Hamilton, Ekpiteta, Ballard and even the ref for a change! 😂 Things are clicking into place! 👌🍊👍🏻

Great result, well played everyone, great team effort. NC & CC picked the right team.

Dougall my MOM but lots of others. Back 4 were excellent, Turton superb, Yates had a brilliant second half, CJ is a real thorn in the side of the opposition and he frees up space for others.

Think back to all those seasons after Ollie, it was purgatory, but look at the football we are playing, it is just so good to watch. The Donny blip in the second half will have meant some lessons were learnt. Another clean sheet, always so important and players champing at the bit to be in the team. I think we are a very very decent side.

Very good. Totally dominated the second half and Robson and Dougall looked a lot better than previously. Love the way we keep possession and you can see the difference in the second half when the opposition tire. Great goal and everybody contributed.

Funny how we watch a particular player isn’t it? I feel the same about Ekpiteta and he was excellent tonight 👍🏼

It's the same each week mate, especially now we get the stats too. He's always between 50/65 % pass completion and last 3 in our team every game.

Ridiculous team selection and yet a great performance and result. We can put the knives away til next time! 🤣

I thought that at the time, but Turton and Husband used their experience and played well. Anderson, who started instead of Madine scored our only goal. Can't argue with that.

Madine came on late and helped see the time out. Well done, Critchley.

More than happy with that, as good a performance against a decent side as I have seen in a long time.

Maybe that was what Critch envisioned for this team from the start, it has just taken a few more months than first hoped.

Long may it continue; no reason why this team can't make the play offs if we are more than a match for the Portsmouth's of this division.

Excellent that tonight, back 4 outstanding, yates ran his bollocks off and Hamilton and anderson were dangers on the break.

We have shown now that 433 can work against teams who try to attack and the counter attack is potentially a massive asset to us against teams who don't just sit back and defend.

Horses for courses will be needed over the season and tonight critchley got it just about right, despite potentially waiting bit too long to make the 1st change when we started to look a bit leggy.

Big confidence boost to see out a tight game after that 2nd half at donny last week, in fairness we looked to have it under control despite the slender lead.

Another 3 on Saturday now...

Totally agree with everything you’ve said there, just to add , I think Dougall should be the captain,

Great all round. KaiKai's touch and passing let him down. Didn't want Turton in there, but he did well. Fair play.

I was decidedly underwhelmed by tonight’s team selection. However credit where it’s due, that was the most one sided 1-0 I have ever seen. I am one who would get rid of Turton tomorrow but he had an excellent game tonight. If he had more of those performances instead of his usual turgid, pass it back at every opportunity, I would hope to give him a new contract. But one swallow doesn’t make a summer, so we will see.

Don't you just wish we could be in the ground watching this team grow? Would be brilliant. Hopefully soon enough...
It might be a blessing in disguise somewhat that fans weren't allowed in whilst they were going through their rut. Possibly allowed them to develop without pressure and I can only see them getting better

By the looks of things we'll be League One's Barcelona by the time we eventually get in!

Dougall was brilliant in second half and Turton too. We looked organised and solid. First game I have really enjoyed all season.

Really enjoyed that, everyone looked comfortable on the ball. Dougal was magnificent. Even Chissy sounded good.

superb performance their keeper made a couple of very good saves as well, 1-0 probably flattered Portsmouth. things seem to be clicking. Though Kaikai was hot and cold but . . . . . he constantly had two Portsmouth players on him, i still think he had a decent game. Husband made his customary mistakes but saying that he kept things fairly quiet down their right hand side which was supposed to be their danger area.

Big mention to Oli Turton tonight.A few disparaging comments re his inclusion over Gabriel tonight Prob. Not far off man of the match for me tonight. Always looking for the ball, positionally there or there abouts and gets through a hell of a lot of very quiet good work.
Nearly set up a second goal with a fizzer of a ball across the box.
That said, twas a very classy, gritty team performance tonight. Augers well

Only slight negative 2 silly bookings in extra time. The team is starting to gel and be interchangeable which is unreal from where we were 10 games ago

Thinking about it now..

We beat top of the league Peterborough
We had an amazing first half performance against up there Doncaster but stupidly threw it away
We just completely outclassed up there Portsmouth

I'm trying to not get carried away!
