Blackpool v Oxford Official Matchday Thread 10.02.24

I’ll take that point.Oxford we’re better and should have won it really. Both teams battled well but I would say they got the better of it overall.

Thought we played ok but got lucky with the Bodin effort. My biggest concerns are the shaky defending and who the hell is going to score any goals as our strikers are shot shy.

Disappointing but a fair result, not great for either teams. decent match but we are slipping away now, getting harder and harder and to be honest this is a decent 8th to 14th position league 1 team. I don't care what criticism I get but Critchley is not the manager to take us forward, he's a plodder and a one trick pony. If we don't make the play offs this season, and there is no way we will then he should be gone at the end of the season, but we all know he will be here ext season when we finish 10th again.

Yeap unless we change (byers could do this) things dramatically we ain't getting in playoffs... for me we ain't good enough.

One thing from today.. Morgan for me is class.. one we need to secure on good deal.

Maybe could have won it but zero quality and all huff and puff. Should have lost given their gilt edge chances.

Frustration yet again. I'm just waiting for the Critch Meister to run out the lines of I thought it was two good teams, a good game and a draw about a fair result. We are not entitled as a fans to expect to win any game but the season has been mediocre tripe and I expected more with the squad he has at his disposal.

Oxfords CHs were outstanding, they headed everything all day but that said we kept clipping balls up to them to win the header. Kouassi at least gave them something to think about.

I really don't get our skipper, why did we chase after him for two seasons? He's not very mobile, rarely makes a clean tackle, poor passing, If he wasn't captain im sure he'd be dropped. Lavery and Joseph worked their conkers off but lack finesse in their play and wouldn't have scored if they played until midnight.

Lets say this season is a rebuild! Are we confident that we will be any better next year?

You should go NAPM if you aren't happy.....oh wait.....you have been since 1992.....

Weird how the results played out in the 90+ min point.

So after all of that the relative table positions remain the same and we still have a death like grip on 8th.

I thought it was a real mixed bag today - some decent stuff from a few and some rank stuff from others. But as always no real quality in the box.

It’s obviously still possible, but probable?

I thought we were decent today against a good Oxford side.
Problem is, though, 'decent' ain't quite gonna deliver, is it? We need to be a couple of notches up from that in our performances at this stage - and, we're nowhere near. And I don't suppose carrying a couple of passengers particularly helps matters either ... Especially when you're faced with being up "against a good {insert random name of relevant opponents} side".

Very fortunate to get away with a point today Oxford by far the best chances.

Plenty of huffing and puffing from us but little else.

Once again certain players look out of their comfort zone today.
They looked more composed than us but I thought we had the better of the chances

Mathematically possible.

Probable? Not really.

We aren't good enough unfortunately because results don't lie, please don't say but Portsmouth. No idea where the goals are coming from with Rhodes out.
The referee today didn't help either side, thought he was absolutely appalling and seemed to be making it up as he was going along.

Clearly both Critchley and many of the players aren't good enough to take us forward and achieve promotion.
We have one striker worthy of the name and that's Rhodes. Lavery and Joseph have career records of 1 goal every 5 games which is rubbish. Kouassi is big and strong but still raw and not a goalscorer at league level.
Beesley scores a few but spends most of his time injured.
Our keeper, defence, midfield and wingbacks are no more than average. Byers signed to improve the midfield and our clueless head coach sits him on the bench!
Much of the blame is with Critchley who I wish would clear off.

Quite enjoyed the game we were saved by the woodwork .
However I disagree they were better than us as I'm sure the stats will show.
Thought it was an even game and draw is about right.
Marv and Husband concern me when we are under pressure.
Season mot over yet but not sure if I would bet against us finishing 8th .

I've tried to hold out with Critchley but my support is waning. What do his teams do? What is their marque? They put in effort but beyond that I see nothing distinctive.

Time to get real, me thinks. For, on current showings, we don't stand a cat's chance ...
