Blackpool v Burton Albion Official Matchnight Thread 09.02.21

Anything been heard off Critchy or JFH or indeed Chizzy?
Reacting to the postponement, Critchley said: "Obviously it's disappointing, especially with it being so close to kick-off.
"We had prepared, we'd done our warm-up and the players had come off the pitch.
"But unfortunately the pitch had deteriorated in the last hour and the referee, having looked at different areas of the pitch, thought it was unplayable.
"He thought the safety of the players would be at risk. He spoke to both managers and that's the call he took.
"It's not ideal, obviously. We're disappointed the game is off because we had prepared to play, but we have to go with the referee's decision."
A new date for the game will be confirmed in due course.

My point being, shouldn’t the cover/heater be left on until the last possible minute, if as is being said the temperature was dropping ?
The heaters would have to be taken off to allow the teams to warm-up, it was then that Burton complained to the ref that the pitch was frozen and they were slipping.

The ref had to inspect the pitch as well which he okayed an hour before, apparently it was that cold the pitch went from fine to frozen in an hour!

Hasslebank admits it was their influence:

Manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said he was disappointed that the game has not gone ahead tonight, but emphasised the need to put player safety first.
"The players went out for a warmup and I had three players slipping, one really badly when he couldn't stop," said Hasselbaink.
"The referee was called. I was watching from a distance and he was told that the pitch was really hard and frozen, part of it in one half.
"The referee called me (over), I spoke to a couple of the players and some were not happy with it.
"The referee made the decision not to play because the longer the game would go on, the more the frozen parts would get dangerous.
"We have come here to play, prepared to play, set up to play and it wasn't meant to be.
"The most important thing for me is the safety of my players. If it's not safe to play, then you can't play. The club has spent money on a coach and everything to get here.
"We're coming in after a good result, and we're feeling good, so we wanted to come here and play but the conditions have to be right for both teams.
"I don't think the conditions were right and it's unfortunate but we have to do the right things for our players."

I gave my back lawn a pitch inspection at 6:30 and it wouldn't take a stud. It told me 'hey dude get off'😀 Seriously it was frozen. It wasn't that bad at 5 when I put the bin out.

If a pitch is frozen and dangerous then it is.

And if Burton can exert more influence on a ref than us, we should sack Critch.

Don't blame the ref and don't buy into conspiracy theories, when there are none. The lights only worked whilst on. comparing your lawn to a pitch that is looked after by professionals and hd cover and heat lamps, my god

You are comparing your lawn to that of a professional football club with grounds men, covers and heat lamps, gobsmackingly stupid comment!

I'm not sure how you can blame the groundsman when the pitch was playable at 6.00pm.
It is of course Owen's fault for not installing undersoil heating.
And it's also Owen's fault for not building a new stadium with a roof and a retractable pitch.

Had we played and won the games we've had cancelled we'd actually be 6th. (depending on how many we won by)

I know that's a bit of an 'if' but that surprised me tbh.

I’m not buying it at all. Pitch absolutely fine at 6pm then 50minutes later frozen and unplayable. Load of bollox.

I'm kind of glad the game was called off. Our fans got to offload a load of anger without us losing any points. 🤣

I was worried before the game was called off that the knives were out and it was a classic situation where a win is demanded by the mob but we are playing a team that has hit a bit of form, in that they beat top of the table a few days ago.

So I think last night could potentially have been a lot worse. 👍
