Blackpool v Bolton Official Matchday Thread 17.02.24

Bolton haven’t exactly been setting the world alight lately with 3 draws and 2 narrow wins. They’ll want automatic promotion rather than the playoffs and will want to get back above Derby in 2nd spot.
Personally I think it’ll be a draw which will still keep them in the race but will leave us looking for others to do us a favour. Our next game is at Orient and I don’t see us getting a win there either.

We've been looking for others to do is favours to or weeks, in fact l few teams have done just that but we've failed to capitalise on it.

The players owe is after that shambolic display on Tuesday night. What I’d go with (sticking to the bollocks formation we MUST not deviate from):

Grimmy

Casey
Ekpiteta
Pennington

Gabriel
Dembele
Norburn
Byers
Lyons

Lavery
Joseph

Subs: O’Donnell, Pennington, Husband Morgan, CJ, Virtue, Kouassi

Husband been poor for a while, Morgan was awful on Tuesday and needs dropping as a kick up the arse. Don’t want see Connolly in a tangerine shirt ever again.

We’re playing Bolton. Not Real Madrid. Play our best team and just go for it
Does Pennington get double wages for playing and being on the bench at the same time?

I was also at the 1977 defeat, aged 11; it was my first experience of a home defeat and I recall their second was in the last minute as we were walking out.

It’s hard to believe they haven’t won at BR since, although the 1989 Fright Van Trophy Northern Area Final felt like a defeat….

I was at that game, from memory, attendance was 25,000. Amazing atmosphere, smoke bombs being thrown into south paddock by Bolton fans who got in there. Poor result in our relegation season.
I was in the South Paddock and I have no recollection of smoke bombs being thrown. Seem to remember Bolton had a very good forward line Neal Whatmough, Frank Worthington and Alan Gowling.

Really looking forward to this one but it’s more hope than expectation. It really is a massive game, win and could be right in the mix come 5pm, lose and it really could be season over.

Rhodes is a big loss to us even if it’s just for his presence up top, defenders know they can’t give him an inch. Hopefully one of the other forwards can have a big game today.

We're getting battered here, we're not in the same league. Why does Critchley persist with this formation when we need 442? We need to take the entire midfield off now and change the defence at half time and not wait till 60 minutes like always.

Critch out, Dobbie in!!!!!

Edit
Oh, has the game not started yet? Pressed "Post reply" too early.

Just on the train to Blackpool. Dreading today. We need a win. I'm an exile in Bolton and my stepson is a Bolton season ticket holder. Full of a cold. The trains home are infrequent and unreliable at the moment due to engineering works. Nightmare vision of being stranded on Preston platform after the game with hundreds of jubilant Bolton fans wondering when I'll get home. Just read the post wondering if I'm a distant relative of ATG 😂

I think we will win . But if it goes pear shaped then it will turn toxic quickly, and it’s hard to see how Critchley turns the tide with the fans. A lot resting on this match today
There is.
I hope if we do get beat it doesn’t get nasty. We aren’t favourites to win this game even though we are at home. We can definitely win but they are a good side.

Bolton over performers against xg and Pool really need a win after the midweek debacle and to get the playoff hopes back on track. Not necessarily a must win game from a points perspective but may well be as confidence on the field and in the stands likely to be shot with a defeat

Joseph on the bench too
I had the joy of going on Tuesday evening and it wasn't pretty.

I really hope I'm wrong.

Joseph is a cut above Bees.

I think this might be a lump it forward and hope for a flick on to Lavery - which would be a change in style and will certainly be welcomed by "lump it forward" brigade in the west.

A very unimaginative starting eleven. The cherry on the cake would have been squeezing Callum Connolly into the team somehow. Let us hope for the best.

Can’t say I’m excited by that team but the alternatives have hardly been flying recently.

Not sure what to make of it. Fingers crossed and hope for the best.

There’s only realistically one play off spot to play for, got to hope for the best now ! For f*cks sake come on pool

Here’s hoping we put in a performance come what may.No Connolly is 3 steps forward from Tuesday

Well this is last chance saloon as are all of our remaining games let’s hope we’re still in it in a couple of hours.

Come on you Pool 💪⚽

Hope I’m wrong but I just can’t see anything other than all the points going to Bolton.
It’s something like 25/26 years since they last won here so it’s long overdue.
We just looked like a team that haven’t played together on Tuesday night and I honestly feel Bolton are a better/stronger side than Peterborough.
We simply have to put our best starting 11 out sadly Critchley is still working out who it is. 😩
Great post Bobstill he keep persisting in bloody 5-3-2 should we lose today our wonderful chairman needs to get shut and the whole mob needs to be replaced with Tomo and Dobs until the end of the season our club is a few clowns short of a circus.fingers crossed we win can not see the bench is stronger astonishing

Lavery running into players again with the ball and Coulson before that didn't look where he was crossing it, playing okay at the moment though
