Blackpool FC memorials

Just had a walk through the woodland trail from Holyoake Ave up to Moor Park Ave. I knew there was a memorial garden at the Moor Park Ave end which seems to have been built up even more over the last year or so. Anyway, I noticed six plinths next to each other of people who died in the First World War who had played for Blackpool. Anyone know anything about this and who was responsible for doing it.

Sorry, no idea. Looks like it's worth a visit.
My Uncle was killed in WW1. But I don't think he was a footballer.

I did that trail last year and it came as a huge and very nice surprise. It stopped me in my tracks and was moving.

yeah my o/p was from over 2 years ago. Done the walk many times since and the whole memorial has considerably grown in size and is a wonderful tribute to so many different groups. For those who haven't yet seen it, it really is well worth a visit.

Passed it many times never new it had anything to do with BFC as none of my family(that I know of) where war veterans so never read the plinths.
Will do now.

I know Gerry Wolstenholme was involved and was researching the guys from WW1.

I did a little bit of research for him as I’m obsessed about all things WW1.

John Cross was involved too so I’m sure he can explain exactly who was responsible.

Both John and Gerry have done so much behind the scenes for our fabulous club. They are true legends in my eyes. Great blokes.

The Community Trust look after it.

The council look after the memorial site.

I don't know anything about the football plinths. Assume they are very recent. The memorial area was installed and managed separately although we made space in the design as late change. It's a great space as others have said.

The project to deliver the nbpt was finished a few years ago now and other than keeping tabs on the volunteering progress and the occasional visit, I haven't been involved. The whole area is superb, great mix of habitats. One of the best projects we did with mostly volunteers (experts in wildlife) working together on the project

That trail btw is North Blackpool Pond Trail and includes the Fylde Memorial Arboretum and Community Woodland.

The trail also includes the excellent Kincraig Lake, as well as (of course) numerous ponds along the route.

The Arboretum has been there since 2009.
