Beer and an away win what a day

Must have been one of my best away days in 35 years of attending away games. Not only good laugh on train from poulton at 8am, 1 nil win, no hassle from home fans and array of pubs to sample real ale. Pubs attended as far as I can remember The Sheffield tap, the Wellington (my fave), Kelham Island, the Black Cat, The Crow. And The Beer Engine before the match as well as The Rutland, the brilliant Triple Point Brewery and the Industry Bar before train home I think I've named them all and yet so many we didn't get to as well. Admittedly we did have halves in many of these or I wouldn't have got home in one piece. 9/10 for my day point lost as I didn't find a chippy.

1870, The Rutland did a fantastic Rutty Butty. Cjhips with a chilli Sauce and various other niceties. Great Pub, Great Beer, Great Staff, Great Locals , Great Food, topped with the 1-0 win, what more can you ask for?

The Howard opposite station was a decent pub too.
Friendly staff, quick service and good selection of beers.
Great atmosphere mixed with a few Sunderland fans. I stayed there the whole duration as it was comfortable and the dread of long queues pubs closer to the ground.

Stopped over in Sheffield for 2 nights as my daughter is at University there. I think Sheffield has got to be one of the best cities you can be a student in. Good nightlife (so I am told) not expensive, down to earth.

Stayed near the Beer Engine so went in there both nights for a early one or two. Then went out for food before leaving daughter and son to head for the student parties!

Sheffield is ace. I was driving so beer intake limited but found a lovely old fashioned pub called 'the Bath' (I think) and had one of the best pints of bitter I've ever had.

Really enjoyed just mooching round for a few hours before kick off. It's a city with loads of character both visually and in terms of stuff to do.

Hope you enjoyed the student parties but a bit unfair leaving your daughter and son behind. 😁

Similar Hampshire - son at Sheffield too but i drove up and back. lunch, a couple of beers, lots of singing and home for a curry. Agree it’s a cracking city. UTMP

Wellington used to be our favourite, too. Great area for pubs, round Kelham Island. I'm getting nostalgic.
