On the match…

“It feels like ground-hog day a little bit, a loss by one goal from a set-play, Connolly has slipped and Madine gets free and scores a header, it’s disappointing as we weren’t at the races for as good as we can be.

“We’ve come away from the game without having a shot on target, albeit a few scary moments in the box but at this moment in time we’re disappointed as we’ve gone from a free-scoring team where we can look at scoring double figures but in the last two games we have been stop-start and it’s something we have to work on.”

On the two sides’ rivalry…

“It’s disappointing but it will be a long hard slog this season, I’m gutted for our fans because it would have been nice to win that local derby and to get ourselves back in the playoff picture, but it is what it is.

“We’re really gutted but there is no point dwelling on it for too long because we have another derby game against them on Tuesday night. For the local pride, both sides were desperate to win the league fixture, for Blackpool to come to a team play-off finishing team last year and winning, especially how good we were at home it will boost their confidence.”

On the squad’s standards…

“We set our standards every week, every single time you step foot on the park you can’t live off past performances, it doesn’t matter what you have done in the past and you have to live in the present and you can’t take anything for granted.

“We have work to do to better than last season’s play-off finishes. We will dust ourselves down and get back on the training ground and aim to turn the last two results around.”

Whatever you may think of him his comments on the game were reasonable and your comments tell us more about you than him.
Please judge me on the fact I think Barton is a c*nt.
I'll be sure to lose zero sleep over it.

I'll come put a cigarette out in your eye then we can discuss the game afterwards, I'm sure you'll be more than willing to take on board the points I raise.

I`m obviously flogging a dead horse here,if you forgive me to referring to you as that,so I`ll leave it at that.

20`s I fully accept your point about having a bit of fun at the Cod`s expense.

I can't remember Fleetwood having a shot on target or really threatening Maxwell's goal. I said I didnt rate them before the game. I'm not going to come out now and praise them when they did absolutely nothing all day.
They'll continue to pay over the odds for over the hill players and occasionally flirt with the playoffs in this division.

I've said since day one (as I know you have too) that what we are building trumps Fleetwood's efforts in every single measurable way and sooner or later we will leave them far behind.

And they'll still have a load of past it players collecting one last wage playing for a tin pot side, going no where in front of 1000 paying fans.

Fair enough but that wasn`t the point I was making.

I was brought up with the saying magnanimous in victory generous in defeat but it is a football fans website and so perhaps unsurprisingly I am clearly in a minority of one on here .

Edit to add: I have just seen plenty of likes on my earlier posts on here so my faith in the decency of our fans is fully restored. 👍

He's beginning to take his licks from Blackpool FC quite admirably, no spitting of the dummy anymore.

I imagine its because it is becoming quite routine now, and I imagine it won't stop anytime soon 😉

I agree with the sentiment but you wouldn't have seen any in the unlikely scenario of a Fleetwood win. Similarly, the full interview with Barton had a whinge about the ref, ironic given the amount of fouls they put in.

But that`s not the point is it.However badly others may or may not behave, however you may rightly or wrongly speculate how they may have behaved if they`d won, that hardly justifies our fans sinking to those levels.

We won for goodness sake, let`s just enjoy that without having to belittle the losers or their manager, inappropriately in this case.We can do better than that.A bit of leg pulling is fine but not some of the above comments.

Much more balanced comments than I was expecting. And he had reason to be aggrieved about the ref, but didn’t mention the incident. So fair play. 👍

For a bit of balance, the above extract of his interview with Radio Lancs omitted his comments about Blackpool's time wasting from the 17th minute onwards, the referee's poor performance and the astonishing lack of injury time.
Thats more like the Joey we know and despise

It was an even scrap and one punch landed that’s it. One goal disallowed which looked marginal. No one looked better than anyone else. Poor game of ‘’football’’ in general from both sides. Both went to scrap it out and one just came out on top. A good 3 points. Could do the same again and lose 1-0 so as said good 3 points.
