Bad publicity for Blackpool again

And now on Granada reports tonight they saying the town has the lowest life expectancy in the country, men living only to 73.

I assume London wasn’t included in the poll then
Are you thick or what, when has London been a town. Numerous murders recently, stabbing on Claremont, loads of antisocial behaviour reported, drug crime on increase, the lists are endless. We are top for a reason, if they included holiday makers we would be nowhere near top.

I presume all those thousands of Stags/hens and groups of young people who come on the piss and end up in a punch up ain't included in the stats?
FFS we now have two Young Farmers events a year.

Hang around talbot rd, dickson rd for a couple of hours and just see what goes on.

Daft thing is the council/police are still allowing pubs and takeaways to open in the area.

Should be shutting them down or have a continuous police presence instead of a zero presence.

Any bad behaviour the police should put the culprits in the back of a van and drop them off in the middle of nowhere.

Surely Fleetwood should have been on that list especially after what you read on here about the town?

Where’s Comical Allez when you need him? 🤣

Bradford Police have just had their special measures time increased due to gangs of youths roaming the centre. No doubt most of them will be armed with knives and/or machetes. I have to traverse it once I arrive back from the match to catch a bus to Shipley. It's definitely a case of keeping your wits about you.

Shocking, the police should be getting stuck into the numpties

Went on a work thing to Bongos Bingo last night at the tower and you forget how beautiful that ballroom is. There’s nothing like it anywhere else in the world.

Had a few beers before on the way from Blackpool North and tbh was pleasantly surprised how that area of town was developing.

I feel safer walking through Blackpool than I do walking through the ghost town that is Bradford. Gangs of youths (male and female) drinking in the street, few buses after 6pm. beggars and ner do wells on every corner. Daytime and night time. Cars with banging exhausts travelling at high speeds. ignoring red lights, parking and double parking on pavements. Rubbish thrown all around the take aways, bins unused, It is a city with a total disregard for rules, regulations and authority. I pity the Police, who have a thankless task.

Ladies and Gentlemen this is your City of Culture 2025.

Ranked the most violent town in the U.K.

More ridiculous comparisons.

You can't fairly compare a holiday town that attracts 20 million people a year to a town with a largely static population.

All they do is take the number of crimes and divide by the towns population.

But it's stupid as those visitors are contributing towards the figures massively.

The towns population can basically triple in the summer months. If that was factored in Blackpool wouldn't be near the top of the list.

So it doesn't mean normal residents are likely to encounter significantly more crimes, as it's not factoring in the visitors and a lot are amongst themselves at times in the known areas.

Send 20 million people to any town or city a year and would you know, certain things will increase.

The fact that having so many people coming on holiday doesn't even get a mention shows the agenda.

Wilf, I too feel safe in Blackpool. Always have.
In my late teens and after Nat Service it was just 'My 'Home Town'
In those days lots of people called Ibbison St , a place to keep away from'.
Not me, although I didn't live there.
I had good friends there, one of which was a guy named Reggie Hardman. Well named, but a great mate.
When he finished his apprenticeship he went on Nat. Service to the Tank Regt I was in in Germany.
I think he became BAOR boxing champ.
A good guy to have on your side.
He was older than I so don't know if he's still around.

Our stats are different from most of Europe where minor offences like giving some a slap don't get recorded as a violent crime an assault we do.

Common assault in Blackpool is always going to be higher with the thousands who come here on the piss every weekend.
So no I don't believe these figures to how safe is a town.

Don't forget also the quarter of million of people who live in the area many of the young who flock to Blackpool on a weekend.
My niece who lives in Fleetwood is always out in town.

Well you get that in towns and cities, people from the local areas go there to the bigger place for nights out etc.

What doesn't happen is a level of tourism even close to Blackpools level for most, noweher near, and that makes a huge difference.

Here's the data and although correct, very little thought put in given visitors not thought of.

You'll always that that sort of result with a relatively small population, compared to big cities, but so many visitors.

Manchester actually at the top of the least safe list, despite a much larger population to divide those crimes by.

Blackpool has a pretty small boundary, many places would have big rural areas included too, so again, if Blackpool included some surrounding areas it would again come down. Another disadvantage in comparisons.

Blackpool 2nd for cctv... about time they got some high quality cameras that can actually produce clear images of faces...

I will say there seems to be issues in the whole country with burglaries etc and is it about time we got tough on crime with proper deterrent?

It's a situation I've seen described as "anarcho-tyranny", where the state fails to protect its citizens from violence, but at the same time criminalizes behaviour that most might regard as innocent, so you end up with a double fear of violence and arbitrary criminalization.

It seems a fair description of the country these days, violent criminals free to roam the streets essentially beyond the rule of law, but at the same time motorists persecuted at every opportunity, "hate speech" prosecuted ruthlessly, careers ruined for asserting basic biological facts and so on.

Ireland has descended into anarcho-tyranny, and we’re following suit

Time to get tough on crime, real crime that affects lives.

Even the little stuff, anti-social behaviour, increasing to burglaries etc. Blackpool town centre has seen some recently and there's a feeling that not a lot gets done.

They caught this clown a bit ago...

But there's more like him and there's a feeling of invincibility amongst some it seems, maybe worse since covid, the affects that had on people's mental health etc and the normalising of face covering maybe.

People who go round smashing windows etc and it causes small businesses harm in tough times. Little crimes can often lead to more serious things.

If you can discourage and punish smaller crimes you're om the right path.
