1966, that was the film which was supposed to end ALL Wars.

It was banned in Germany by the Nazis, only being unbanned in 1952. It was also banned in Victoria, Australia (until 1941 I think) in France until 1963 and in Austria and Italy prior to and during WW2.
It is considered to be one of the USA's greatest ever films and was the first to receive both a Producer and Director Oscar.
I think all the versions stand up but it's the original that really leaves its mark.
