Anyone else’s investments dropping

Not sure if it’s mainly down to the Ukraine and Russian situation but my investment savings portfolio which is mainly in oversees stocks, shares and bonds etc has started to drop significantly🤬 presume I will just have to see it out and hope they pick up again in a couple of months time. Anyone else seeing a similar drop??

Anyone with a private pension will (indirectly or otherwise) have diversified investments in the UK, US, Europe, and Asia; as well as gilts.
It's not really about the personal choice of the pension holder choosing to support the UK or not.
I took my pension as a lump sum rather than as an annuity, so to answer the o/p, yes it's fallen by about 9-10%
It fell a lot more due to covid though, and it recovered, so yes you should "see it out" as the o/p suggests
I'm not an investment expert though, Seaside One would have a much better idea for example.

This is not advice just opinion.

The stock market is overvalued massively in the US and elsewhere due to tech and too much money supply - inflation reduces the future value of profits, so all the unprofitable tech stocks (and the profitable ones) are undergoing a correction or maybe more.

If you have trackers this could become a major major issue; as so much money is in these now it could become a major issue - market drops - trackers sell - market drops again and so on.....

The ONLY stocks I am buying at the moment are ones battered by Covid that should return (IAG, RR) over next few years and stocks that are massively undervalued using proper valuation models.

The question I would ask a broker is exactly where is my money at the moment and do YOU fully understand what you are invested in and the real risks.

Remember - the stock market is the worlds biggest casino and works more on emotion than reality.

Shame some people are more worried about losing a few quid than what’s happening in Europe right now. 🙄
I think that's unfair Jaffa... I am very concerned and mortified about the Ukraine, but I still want a bright future for my family.

It is possible to worry about more than one thing at once - I cannot really influence the Ukraine, but I can influence my families future (for now).

You’re entitled to think what you want pal I’ve no issues with that. 👍

I’am sure the heads of families in the Ukraine though right now aren’t worrying about a few stocks and shares the only thing their thinking about right now is survival.

I just just thought the thread was very poor timing to be honest and such a trivial subject at these sad times.

No problem pal 👍

I will add this though - if you are sat at home and see your future changing - to do nothing would be criminal for me.

🙄 this from the guy who thinks that the actions of the Black and Tans in Ireland were funny

Thanks for the responses, for what it’s worth I am horrified by the actions of Russia, and being ex military with over 22 years service I can assure you I really do care. However that doesn’t mean I can afford not to care about my retirement fund. If I thought it would really help the people of Ukraine I would move my money but not convinced as yet it would.

All I would say Devonshire is that in the time of a fall, I prefer to sit tight. They normally recover soon enough. Look at yesterday’s panic sell off and today’s equally large rise.
You can always look for trends. Crypto might not be the magic money tree it started out as. Equally in times of crisis, investors often turn to tried and tested safe grounds such as gold. If you were really doing it properly you would anticipate the dips and sell on time (e.g. before the full on invasion of Ukraine), buy on the dip yesterday and sell again just before close today. My oil shares have been doing alright.

But you were supporting Brexit.

So, all right in principle but not in practice.

What a bloody hypocrite!
Why ? Because I’m an investor and there’s a ** war going on you plank ? By the way recovered magnificent today, gotta know what your doing.

Thousands off my banking shares, they did gain today(earlier) from yesterday but at the end of the day, no change. Mining shares are still up and have not been hit yet. In for the long term just hope no incoming nukes stop me from spending them if I ever get to retire.

I see Jacob Rees Mogg's investment company divested its £44.5m in Sberbank a few weeks ago. Lucky that as they were part of the Russian sanctions package announced yesterday. I bet he is relieved.

How dare you act like a capitalist 😄 some on here will be angry
I know what you mean. My great grandad invested in Mitsubishi before the war and made a killing when the Japs bombed Pearl Harbour. Anyway he left me enough money to buy a brand new Mitsubishi in the 80s. Sod the POWs I say. Everyone for themselves!

What do you think we should do Jaffa? I take you will be heading to Ukraine not football tomorrow? Life goes on here. We all have to survive.

Well thats a silly post isn’t it.

Managed portfolio dropped from 8% to minus 0.34% over the weekend to Thursday but came back to 4% today. High risk so par for the course but it shows how volatile things are.
