If no Rhodes then chuck Virtue in as interim.

Start with this and use CJ and Kouassi to their strengths in second half. This is the change that needs to be made.

No daft manager changes in the middle of the season like last year. We have a team that is capable of getting out of this division just need to use it properly.

Anything’ better than the 352 or 343.

I personally think we are better balanced/suited to 442 with our squad, or even 4312 with Dembele the 1. Cover in lots of areas.

Cant see him changing it tbh.

Odonnell
Gabriel Pennington ekpiteta husband/coulson
Cj/ norburn Morgan Byers
Dembele
Rhodes Joseph

Dont mind the system but i would change the personnel

Grimmy
Gabriel Pennington Casey Coulson
Norburn Morgan Byers
Dembele Rhodes Joseph

The system i would like to see is 4231

Grimmy
Gabriel (2 from 3 Marv, Casey, Pennington) Coulson
Byers Norburn
Dembele Morgan Joseph
Rhodes

Plenty of options off the bench to change the game if needed:
Lavery
Lyons
CJ
Kouassi
Hubby
Virtue
O'Donnell

We need to get a grip of midfield. Morgan, Byers and Norburn should all play in a 4-3-3.
The most solid I've seen from our midfield this season is when we hammered Reading at home and our midfield was a three strung across the pitch with Virtue on the right Norburn in the centre and Dougall on the left.I think we should do the same with the three players you've mentioned.

I think we might see a flat back four with an unambitious can’t lose attitude again. A draw saves face and a change shows he is willing to adapt …albeit reluctantly. He can then blame trying the new formation if we do get tonked out of the park or all the credit for the bounce back. It’s Critch self preservation mode.

We played 3-5-2 back then giving us that extra man in midfield.
It morphed into 3-4-3 so if we are to persist with 3 at the back away from home give us the extra mid player and back to the old system.

I don't have confidence in Rhodes as a lone striker, think he's always preferred a partner up top. But we need to control central midfield so how about a diamond / 4-3-1-2?:

Grimshaw

Gabriel / Ekpiteta / Casey / Husband

Byers / Norburn / Morgan

Dembele

Rhodes / Joseph

Get's all of our best players on the pitch, and could also potentially get the best out of Rhodes and Dembele.

Critchley has a big decision on Sat. He will be fully aware of the outside noise regarding the formation. He will also know that another negative result playing the same way will only accelerate the pressure on him. If he changes it and tries something different, I think he will get less criticism as the fans will half acknowledge that he at least tried something different.

Big call for Critchley.

442 for me.
Midfield ... Morgan, Norburn, Connolly, Byers.
Top: ... Rhodes, Dembele for now (Joseph, Rhodes soon).
Dembele then impact sub.
Connolly for his grit - Virtue would be an alternative.

Rhodes is ruled out. Beesley might be fit.

Surely not that midfield? That gives me flashbacks to Ince/Ferguson days when we had Bishop and Basham on the wings

442 for me,

Grimmy
Hubby casey Marv and pennington
Cj noburn Byers Gabriel
Rhodes and kouassi

Rhodes could feed of kouassi who wins the majority of headers, then Dembele and jospeh subs when the old boy tires

How about players in the positions they actually play? Gabriel at right back, Husband at left back, Byers in midfield and Dembele on the wing
yea no idea why Gabriel’s there instead of husband first time using the app. Left the new lads out/subs for now.
Dembele would do fine there and lavery is a pest wherever he plays up top.

This 4-2-3-1 is out strongest team and formation imo. I really believe that it would work so well and show the qualities that we possess within the squad. I just dont get how Critchley doesn't see that.

He won't change it, he's too stubborn. I really hope I'm proven wrong, but I think he's safe in his job until summer at least so he will keep pushing with 3-5-2 even though we can all see it doesn't work.

Fully aware of the outside noise you having a laugh where will he be hearing that?, he wont change anything we all know that. i am going to be really controversial now and i'm ready to get my head bit off, i wouldn't play Marv i think he has lost all confidence, and i would try starting without Dembele, yes he is the flair player and the most creative but i think we need to start being solid.
I'm ready for the onslaught

I think he has reached the stage where if he doesn't try something new to generate positive results then he is walking on thin ice. Some tough games coming up and if he has lost the dressing room then there is usually no way back. The same thing happened at QPR and the players downed tools. His only saving grace is that he has some credit in the bank from SS but that can evaporate very quickly.

Mate of mine that was at the game on Tuesday said that Husband put another long ball over the top and the fans groaned. Husband turned to them and half shrugged as if to say, I'm just doing as I'm told. This is only a few days after Critchley said that the players were buying into how he wants to play. He said he was positive that the players have downed tools and just given up with Critchley.

I think we just about have the players for a back four although I wish we had a 6'4" left-footed CB.
With what we have for me it would be
Gabriel (2 from) Eky/Casey/Pennington Hubby.
But where do we go from there?
Looking at the top 3 teams in the PL
Liverpool 4-3-3
City chop and change
Arsenal 4-3-3
(Mansfield who scored 9 this week played 4-3-1-2)
I kind of like that because it suits our players.
Norburn Byers Morgan
Dembele
Joseph Rhodes.
Despite Mansfield's 9 goals that doesn't look a particularly positive formation but I don't know the players.
4-1-3-2 is considered to be an attacking formation with 3 attacking mid-fielders but do we have three?
So you could end up with the same 11 players but put them on the teamsheet in different order.
That brings me back to my old hobby horse of its not really the formation that holds us back (although I do think we should try a back 4) but it's the performance of the players on the pitch
Tbh I'm a bit like Critch I haven't got a clue. 😁

As l posted earlier it’s definitely a 4-1-3-2 for me and we have Dembele, Virtue, Morgan, Carey who can play in the 3 and possibly others. Yes l know Carey but l wouldn’t give up on him yet as he’s got talent played in the right formation.
