50 years go since that infamous England v Poland WC qualifier. The last 25 mins of that game were the most emotional I have ever been at a football match. How we didn't score I'll never know and the feeling of utter disbelief at the final whistle. Poland had a good World Cup so had we won that...

    Sheff Utd v Blackpool 1969/70

On Youtube came across an edition of The Big Match ( ITV Sunday afternoon highlights prog). In this edition there are about 4 minutes of highlights of the 3 2 win in our promotion season. 2 neat goals from Fred and a cracker from Micky Burns. Well worth a view. Can't 'transfer' it to here so...

    Interesting facts No 2341

Just noticed that Leeds and Cardiff play each other in the 3rd round of the Cup. Back in the 1950s they met in the 3rd round at Elland Road in 3 consecutive seasons and Cardiff won 2 1 on each occasion. Cant imagine that happened before or will ever be repeated.

    Henry Mowbray (RIP)

Sadly has passed away. 90 odd games for us , probably best remembered for his goal against West Ham in the Cup in 1971 ( Tony Green's match) . RIP

    Bruce Crawford RIP

Sad to report that Bruce Crawford passed away recently. An inside forward who made nearly 100 appearances for us between 1959 and 1965 scoring some important goals, none more so than the clinching goal at Birmingham in April 1961 which virtually guaranteed our survival that season. Although he...

    Dave Durie

Underrated inside forward of the 50s and 60s who refused to play on Xmas Day , Good Friday or Easter Monday as he was a lay preacher with the Methodist Church. I presume if games had been played on Sundays during his time he wouldn't have played in those either. Times were different then of...

    Virtue , Stewart and Ward

It seems a while since we've had an update on these 3 ( unless I've missed it) . I assume midfield will be strengthened during the window anyway but in would be nice to know just generally when they might be back available.

    Bobby Waddell RIP

Signed for Blackpool from Dundee in 1965 but was only here a season or so. A centre forward who never really hit it off here but I will always remember a goal he scored at home to Fulham where he completely mishit his shot and the ball trickled into the corner of the goal with the Fulham...

Blackpool 2 Liverpool 1. Probably the highlight of the season for me ( I missed the away game). Thoroughly deserved win completing the double against them ..... Wow.

    Brian Peterson RIP

Passed away yesterday at the age of 83. Made over 100 appearances between 1956 and 1962. A skilful but slight inside forward/ winger with an eye for a goal. He returned to South Africa and played many years for Durban City. RIP , Brian.

    Tariq Lamptey

Just watching the Newcastle v Brighton game and this lad has just been fantastic as an attacking right back. Brighton generally have been impressive.

    10 years ago today.....

We thumped Wigan in our first PL game. That first 45 minutes was mad , we should have scored 5 as Brett missed a sitter and GTF had a goal wrongly chalked off. Always look back on that game with great fondness as the result was totally unexpected.

    Pat Quinn RIP

Scottish International signed In 1962. Skillful inside forward who tended to score ' good' goals. Got a dream move , for him , back to Hibernian the following year. RIP

    Sir Stirling Moss RIP

Just passed away. One of my boyhood heroes who amazingly never won the Drivers World Championship.

Lockdown.....who would you least like to be housebound with

Now that many of us are stuck in the house for most of the day , who would you least like to be at home with? For me , apart from Donald Trump obviously, it would be Jimmy Carr. About as funny as toothache and as for that laugh.........

    Dave Wassell RIP

I understand he has just passed away. Goal scorer extraordinaire in the late 60s and 70s around the local leagues. RIP Dave
