When will the first 1st team signing be?

I know someone who is no longer involved in football but was part of a recruitment team at a League two side and he said to me that a lot of business is done between Feb-Apr even if clubs, players and agents deny it.
To have got rid of the players we have, I guarantee there'll be a few deals already in place but there'll be announced once existing contracts have finished or players return from holiday for the 'scarf above the head' picture!

Most contracts expire on 30th June, so the 1st July is the date for the influx of free signings.

I think the reason we leave signings late is so we aren't paying the wages for May and June when they aren't playing competitive football.

I think Albie Morgan was the first signing to be announced last summer? No idea what the date was though.
O'Donnell - end of June.

When you look at who came in to a squad already reeling from relegation, there wasn't much to work on there was there?
Hindsight is a wonderful thing but Joseph failed to hit the ground running and Kouassi was always a work in progress, no creativity in midfield and we lost Kenny and we got Penno at the back but where was the width and flair?
What was the point in Miles, Oakley-Booth and Chapman and then Finnigan and Sassi.
Loans propped up a deeply flawed recruitment drive which does concern me for this summer.
