Who did your old man always tell you about?

Dad was a huge Bury fan, coming from there and having played at Gigg Lane himself so he used to constantly remind us of Bury 6 Derby County 0 in the Cup Final of 1903 with Tiny Bradshaw scoring a hat trick. So, in answer to the OP, Tiny Bradshaw.
Brazil, why the user name?

My parents didn't follow football, so I used to listen t' wireless with my Granddad in the 60's and latterly the TV in the early 70's before he died
He adopted Blackpool as his club after moving from the Gorbals area of Glasgow.

From memory, he raved about Jimmy Armfield and Jock Stein. He thought Jimmy was the best right back he had watched in person
About Jock Stein - "No other manager will ever win the European Cup with 11 Scotsmen on the field", he used to say after Celtic's win in '67 (I was 5 and didn't have a clue what he was on about, but with his accent, that was quite common)

Going back a very long way by Dad's boyhood hero was Peter Doherty. (1930's). He told me he'd run up to take a penalty with his left foot and hit the ball with his right. Always sticks in my memory that comment. Pool sold Doherty to Citeh for £10,000 in 1936 which was a huge amount of money in those days. Doherty died in PLF in 1990, same year as my Dad. Will be having a kick about together now.
My Dad also used to say that Peter Doherty was one of the best players of his time.

My Dad liked a bet and a fag but never drank. I remember being in a bookies one day when i said to him "your horse has no chance, have you seen what price it is" to which he promptly replied "the fuckin horse doesn't know what price it is" 😀

Same with my old man who always wanted me to support ManU as the family came from Urmston in that part of the world.
He spent my childhood winding me up about Dirty Leeds, in fact we went over the day after they beat us in the 1977 Cup semi and they all laughed at me sat there in my Leeds scarf.
Proper dad⚽😁👍

My dad (Leeds fan) always goes on about neiskins?? And cryff. He said they were the best he’s seen and that includes the class Leeds team of that era.

My dad grew up in Manchester and I remember him telling me a story about the first game he went to the goal scorers were George Best and Denis Law. Not a bad introduction to football I guess.

my dad was a bolton fan his hero was nat lofthouse or the lion of vienna as he called him i used to say didnt he just push goalkeepers into the net.

My old man was a Leicester fan but when he moved to Blackpool he went to watch us every week. Morty, Matthews and Perry were his man 3.

Used to bang on about some bang average Leicester striker in the 80's who went on to score a few for England. Forget his name now....
My Granddad was a season ticket holder at Blackpool for as long as I can remember and went to all the games inc the 3 FA Cup finals and for many years before them so that was his era.

For the old man, a Wolves fan (as was I at the time) it was Billy Wright and Ron Flowers but always had a few words for Stanley Mathews. My first match was to go and see Stan v Wolves at the Molineux...................the bugger didn't play that day as I recall.
