Two to go?

Don’t want to sound too negative , as I’m also rather excited for a successful campaign, but the only thing that concerns me about your ‘ if we can get off to a flyer who knows’ comment is.......that all rests on which ruddy referee we get to take charge of our matches.

Think we need a back up keeper, central defender and experienced central midfielder in the age range of 26 -28 to be signed permanently.
I’d actually be slightly wary of getting more than one loan player in as it looks like we’re building a really strong, cohesive squad.

say if there’s one outstanding young player from Liverpool’s u23s I’d say that should be ok. We shouldn’t need more than that.

Id like us to take Van Den Berg on loan from Liverpool. Solid centre back with experience in the Dutch top flight - nowhere near Liverpools first team either

Can't see it happening. He's well liked at Liverpool + I'd think they'd seem him playing in the Championship.

I would hope we still have 3 or 4 signings (permanent or loans ) to come - and with higher level experience or quality. I cannot see the squad as it stands, pushing for promotion, when most of them are untested even at this level

I’d agree more 4 or 5 considering the volume of players who left and I still think we’ll lose 3/4 from this current squad tbh

Whilst being optimistic for the new season it would be wise to remember our last promotion season from League 1 and the possible need to show some patience if things don't start well. That year we lost the first 3 games and after 11 games only had 8 points with many calling for the manager to be sacked.

We then got 74 points from the remaining 35 games.

It's a fine balance but I think two is a minimum we need, and in the positions the OP suggests. Ideally though I'd like another experienced central mid too. I do agree with Pete on experience. I think if we can get experienced heads in the form of a central defender and central mid that'd be perfect. And that would surely help with bringing on the young players. Have to be realistic though that those players aren't exactly easy to get as they will be in demand and I've no idea who is out there and available.

We now also need someone with strong hands to take over clapping duties from the Fonz.

Add a sprinkling of young Liverpool talent on loan to the above and off we go.

I've only followed football for 65 years and still don't know as much about it as our coach , no doubt, does, so I'll leave it to the professionals. They are the ones who see the squad every day and should therefore be able to decide who and what we need.

Echoing this, SS is clearly backing NC in the transfer market to bring in the players he wants. If NC feels we need an extra keeper, centre half, centre midfielder or striker, I have no doubt in my mind he'll be allowed to bring one in.
If we don't, I won't be losing any sleep over it because we're in safe hands.
