Time to appreciate Husband a little more?

As @Phil_bfc deux rightly pointed out, people seem to love to grumble about Husband and damn him with faint praise mumbling things about him being 'not the quality we need'. I had a look at some of his stats for the season and there's a real case for saying that at left back, he's an absolutely key player. His defensive numbers are superb and the 'with Husband' and 'without Husband' record is particularly surprising.

He was good throughout the whole game last night, I'm not his biggest fan but he was good yesterday.

I've never understood the moaning. Yeah, like any FB he can be done a kipper, but generally he's a decent defender; better than Garbo in there, if not the same dead ball.

He hasn't been helped by playing at CB and it was notable (to me) that in the RCB position he had to clear with his left because he's no RF and only made 5m. It is the same reason why he has been getting a bit of stick when Ballard was the LCB- DB needed to compensate.

Turts, Epo, Greta and Husband should be the ideal back 4 going forward.

I think Husband has quite a bit of guile about his performances & he’s definitely improved, he makes me laugh when he buys a free kick. His enthusiasm is undoubted & probably what got him sent off earlier in the season, but to be fair he seems to have learnt from that. I can’t say I’ve ever been disappointed to find out he’s playing. 👍

He's a very good left back for our level - I've said it all along.

Unfortunately he just has a few moments of madness (possibly due to a loss of concentration) and this is what the majority of fans remember.

I said last night that Husband at centre back is a bit scary particularly on the right side but he did ok, im really surprised that we didnt bring on Turton in place of big marv, who can play there

TD. Don't forget it was Hubby that got Armand sent off against The Cods. It took me a long time to forgive him for that and for winking at me when he was miraculously resurrected from the Highbury turf.
But I have forgiven him and I now agree he is a very important part of the BFC squad.

Its a great OP

Hubby isn't the only one who gets the wrath, could probably name about 20 of the poor fcukers who get it

Footballers eh ....

In my opinion, he has only had one dodgy spell at Blackpool and at 30 you'd like to think he has a couple more decent seasons left in him yet.

Good League One left back. Can probably do a job in the Championship, though I think Critchley would prefer more of an attacking threat, having signed Mitchell and Garbutt to fill that role.

Didn’t rate him last and the beginning of this season but he,s calmed down and is doing a solid job, not spectacular but not careless. A good 7 nearly every time he,s playing.

I think since Garbutt came on the scene Hubby has really stepped up his forward play - he stays fit too! He's go much better at getting the early ball in and that suits us. Defensively he can get done a bit on occasion but in my opinion he's one of our strongest tacklers and headers.
The man bun's a straight red though 🤨 😗

We think alike 👍

I took a long time to warm to him, and he's been winning me over, then he trots out on Tuesday night wearing a man bun.

Come on...

I think his look is more ready to infiltrate the Leeds team as opposed to a trek round India Aesthetically not good but played well on Tuesday. 💇🏻‍♂️

Comfortable on the ball, looks for the pass instead of just the long ball (which all our other defenders are guilty of the opposite) and is really strong in the air. Thorniley didn’t win a header on Tuesday, Husband gets moved there and not sure he lost one. Mr consistent. I was really excited when we signed Garbutt, but we are much better with Husband.

Excellent read as always thank you.

Most important stat for me: Points per game with Husband at left back: 2.17
Points per game without Husband at left back: 0.77

..... that hair though

Yeah but that hair do, bad advice or stem from lockdown creativity?

Could be trying to gain slight speed advantage from aerodynamics...

I hate these top knots, but there are a few weird hairstyles, especially in football. however I won't judge him on it. 😄

I admit Husband is a player who I previously didn't rate that highly and who has gone up in my estimation. His performances on the whole definitely merit his place in the side and he looks very good for us at full back. I am now actually hoping we see the Husband/Kaikai partnership get chance to blossom cos it was showing signs it could be very positive, based on Tuesday night.

Perhaps as a slap head I hold a man who wastes his hair growing ability on a topknot in low regard. Almost an instinctual level of dislike. Whatever, I will learn to judge Husband more on footballing performance than his coiffured misdemeanours

🤣👏

Yes, he absolutley deserves the plaudits for his recent form. He has come back well from that disasterous period when he kept getting sent off and giving away penalties etc. That block was just as vital as Yates' goal. Sensational defending. Maybe it's his new Samarai style hairdo that is giving hime extra powers of defending?

What is it with Critch and fullbacks? Before the season started I rated Husband as average and Turton as crap. They have both come on leaps and bounds.

There was a thread soon after the home game against Charlton where has was sent off for the 2nd time, and it was asking should he play again for us. I said no definitely not because he was a total liability and costing us badly.
I'm glad Critchley didn't agree, as he's been very good in the last few games and has been a regular part of a defence that has really been our strength this season. It takes a certain level of mental toughness to get over those early set backs and he's got it thankfully.
