Shamima Begum

Having read this the decision it appears to relate to her right to come back to appeal her case. The appeal can still go ahead but she won't be present?

I bet there's a great conversation going on in her legal team today......

So......As Legal Aid wont pay for foreign travel........who fancies 4 weeks in a Syrian refugee ISIS compound...............

Anyone?...................Any takers?.........................No?

Hello, Shamina.........Yeah, bit of bad news Darling......Looks like you're getting fitted for that vest a little sooner than we thought........

Directly quoted from Dominic Casciani (Legal correspondent) on the BBC website...

“It is the role of judges and the courts to uphold the rule of law - and protect the universal right that each of us has to make our case fairly in court. But, when it comes to matters of national security - threats to the nation - judges won't tell ministers that their assessment is wrong unless they have heard compelling evidence to prove it.

In the Begum case, that means she is at the heart of an imperfect world of her own making.
She is stuck, with no right to return under the law. But, at the same time, the highest court in the land says her case against the government - her appeal to return - must be paused until she finds some way of taking part in her hearing. And perhaps that will never, ever happen.”
Cast into legal limbo.

As she's not my daughter, I take the same view as most people, that we don't want her back here. But that doesn't stop me thinking that at 15, she was highly coerced into this and that should be something taken into account.
I’am sure it was taken into account but it didn’t do her any good.
She was old enough to marry as an ISIS bride and have a child (3 now is it?) don’t kid yourself at 15 she didn’t know what she was doing.
Let’s not forget she went out with 2 others of that age who later returned home having realised they had made a massive mistake but she chose to stay.

Look, it's no skin of my knob that she's not allowed back in the country. I can't stand the 'pity me' look she seems to have on her face every time she's on the telly. She went off, she made a decision that was more than just a mistake and she's going to have to deal with it for a long time.
But i bet if you had a 15 year old daughter who followed impressionable 'leaders' into doing something illegal or went off and joined a non-religious cult that did something terrible (PNE supporters club or something), you wouldn't be saying 'She knew what she was doing. Fuck her.'

I recall the other two ISIS brides who went out with Begum were reported killed in bombing attacks. All three of Begum’s children have died.

First of all I didn’t say ‘fuck her’ as you imply so that’s out of order.
What I did say was the courts must have taken into account her only being 15 and it made no difference to the outcome.
So no need to get shirty.

Of her own free will she chose to go out of her way to join a movement that was renowned for carrying out the kind of crimes that were the epitome of evil which at almost any age, certainly far younger than 15, is unavoidably obvious. .If you choose to be involved in such heinous crimes you lose the right for any compassionate consideration.

Not getting shirty Jaffra. The 'she's made her bed' attitude is pretty prominent - and not specific to you. And it's totally understandable too when you consider some of the awful things the 'people' she ran off to be with have done in the UK and the rest of the world. But we all know that the average 15 year old's mind has that terrible contradiction of thinking it knows everything whilst knowing nothing. She's become the poster girl to hate, almost like Bin Laden and those depraved fuckers who have committed truly appalling crimes in the name of Islam and I'm not sure the hysteria truly fits the crime of the individual (not the group).

We despise the Nazis and all who carried out crimes against humanity in their name. The same applies here.

That's a fair comment. 👍

One thing Shamima Begum has never ever done is say sorry for her actions and I think that alone speaks volumes of her.

Aye. Don't think for one moment, that I'm supporting her. But I don't buy the simplistic view that 'of course she knew what she was doing.' There's 15 year old girls all over the world right now getting themselves into horrible and disgusting situations because they thought they knew what they were doing...I feel like I'm of the modern world, where kids are exposed to and allowed to do things that would never have been accessible to us, but to me kids are still kids with young, impressionable minds that can be nurtured but also exploited. Whether people like to hear it or not. The truth is, this girl was exploited. It doesn't excuse her or responsibility for her actions, but for me it's something that should be considered in the whole situation.

No come on, this isn`t something you could go into with your eyes even half closed whatever your age.Kids know right from wrong from especially with extremes like this at a far younger age.

As far as I'm concerned, she had plenty of time to make up her mind.
She must have spent lots of time discussing it with her two 'pals' who, apparently, are now dead.
At 15, in these current times, she was old enough to know what she was doing and where it was leading to.
Now it's all fallen apart she wants to come 'home (?)'
Did she discuss her actions with her parent before she went? If so, how did they advise her?
How long was she, and her friends, in planning this move?
Did she think that the British public would welcome her back with open arms?
I'm afraid that, 'She's made her bed, let her lie in it'.

People know what is right and wrong from a much younger age than 15.

I take it you would allow her back into the country?
Not sure I would but I think she has every right to appeal.
I think you also underestimate how many kids out there are vulnerable to social media grooming. I'd say the same for the 14 year old who's just been done for terrorist offences who was groomed by the Far right.
It's just not as simple as it's sometimes portrayed.

I don't remvember the timelines, but did she appeal to come home when ISIS were on the ascendancy or when it all went to shit and they were effectively defeated and on the run?

A woman from Liberty just been on the 6pm news saying the decision is wrong and she should be allowed to return to the UK to put across her side of the story.

Seriously how do these people sleep at night?
Maybe the woman from Liberty should be sent over there to join her. Yeah bet she wouldn’t like it if she came back and lived next door to her. Bloody idiot !!

When I was fifteen I always thought what would Mum and Dad think and acted accordingly. So her parents had no idea what she has planned? Yeah, right. Tough shit

Not read a single reply, but I bet there's some crackers on this one already. Pip and Cat will be annoyed. This is double-ton material in the right hands...

Is it just me who thinks she looks like Jordan's big boy?
Just seen a pic on C4 News
She doesn’t look like the pic you always see
Slim and in jeans
