Rating each signing (Summer 2020)

I’m sure everybody enjoyed reading abels player ratings on the old AVFTT last season, so let’s have another go...

Anderson - 3/5

A decent addition in an area of the pitch we were lacking. Offers versatility, playing LW, AM or Striker. Decent stats too, 6 goals and 5 assists in just 20 games last season.

We know he had an offer to stay at Swindon, but he chose us instead; wether that’s because of higher wages or a genuine ambition/ fondness of the manager, it all bodes well for us, and at 25 he’s still got some room to improve.

Marvin Ekpiteta - 3/5

Another player offered a contract by his former club, Marvin looks like the “perfect modern day centre half”, in the words of Scrafton. Tall (6’4), powerful and quick, with the technical ability to pick out a pass, it’s another interesting one. Similar to Keshi I wonder if he’ll be able to make the step up?

I can’t imagine this signing broke the bank, and even if he ends up a squad player, it seems a decent signing.

Oliver Sarkic - 4/5

Now this is the type of player we should be looking at; young, pacey, versatile and excellent finishing ability (just look at some of his goals).

Having known Critchley since 17, when Liverpool had him scouted at Anderlecht, he joined the pool on a free from Burton, where he turned down the offer of a new contract. This is promising in a lot of ways. Firstly, he’s turned down burton for us; Burton having recently played in the championship. Secondly, Liverpool had him scouted (which speaks volumes), and thirdly, he’s been on the books of massive European teams like Anderlecht and Benfica, having played 44 times for the latters reserves.

Also worth noting the 5 goals and 10 assists in all competitions last season, which is a brilliant record from the right wing.

I’d be interested to see everyone else’s ratings too...

All at least 4 out of 5
All got good reviews from fans of previous clubs. All of an age where with good coaching they can improve and all score goals.
And they are our players so if they move on we get a return from improving them

On the face of it, I'd rank Sarkic as the best on paper. He's the only one who has proven he can cut it in L1. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the others, and the general type of player we are signing/being linked with.

Think those are fair assessments mate. I might go for a 4/5 for Keshi, only because with Kaikai and Sarkic to bomb the wings signing somebody who can hold it up and create from the middle seems inspired to me. Time will tell.

He might turn out amazing, I’m just a little concerned about lack of league 1 experience. I’d love us to bring in a centre mid with league 1 pedigree next

Agree with the Sarkic score looks like he’s slightly flown under the radar for a few years, but the fact Critchley’s tracked him for years is a great sign.

We really are exploiting the current unique situation, and it’s fantastic to see.

Remember he played with Kaikai in Palace reserves too ;)

Sorry if I'm being thick but who is Anderson? I've looked on the official site and the Gazette but I can't see anything.

Wouldn’t give any rating numbers as I have never heard of any of them, but they do sound like the sort of players we should be after, and I am looking forward to seeing them.
Still a bit of doubt in my mind over whether or not League One will actually kick off next season without spectators though, as it may do more harm than good financially to the clubs.

Was thinking exactly this myself. Time will tell

I think Sarko is a genuinely ambitious acquisition. He looks a mobile tricky dangerous presence with an eye for goals and assists. At the cost surely he is not far short of a five star signing. Especially with their fans wishing him well and thanking him for his efforts. Th

the others look more than handy aswell.

I think they will all feature for the pooland establish themselves in a winning team.

Like others, I don't know them so I'll be looking forward to seeing what they can do.
That's one of the joys of early season for me. Putting the faces to names and seeing how they play.

I would go:

Anderson - 3.5/5
Marvin Ekpiteta - 3/5
Oliver Sarkic - 3.5/5

Jerry Yates would be a strong 4/5

The exact same hysteria happened around the Nuttall and Hardie signings last year , Blackpool paying money for players heightened the expectation on the pair of them , and look what happened.

I have no idea 🥴 but I can’t wait to see what impact they have next season, with optimism.

To be honest all 3 are hungry to prove themselves, they were all settled and well liked. They allowed their contracts to run down to get a deal better for their own careers, to make a judgement now wouldn't be appropriate, I trust in the people who are involved in recruitment, this is probably the best qualified group of people in control of signings, coaching, recruitment, scouts we've had ever. I reserve my judgement but if the sarkic lad can have half the impact dobbie had for us, I believe hes that type of player, he will do fine at this level. #UTMP

I'd very much like to see a front 3 of Kaikai, Anderson and Sarkic at some point in pre season, all seem interchangeable across the front 3 - question is would they score consistently enough as a strike force

I’ve got a feeling they’ll play as a 3 behind a striker in a 4-2-3-1

The key points are that these are not cast offs that were not wanted at their clubs.
Signing league 2 players with potential is not a problem, interesting that the Orient comments referred to Ekpetita stepping up to the standard of League 2-physically it sounds like he has the ability to do so again if he has the tactical nous to do so. Anderson would have been playing in this division anyway so must have made the choice to move here for a reason- hopefully ambition.
The most important aspect is how Critchley knits everyone together as a team but it seems promising.
