OT - Canelo v Smith

Can Smith win? Should he just stay behind his jab and reach advantage?
As an aside, Smith usually walks onto a Deacon Blue tune so top lad.

Unfortunately not, Canelo is too good and will just keep going to the body and probably stop him towards the later rounds.

Unless he can trouble Canelo with power (nobody has yet) then he’s goosed I’m afraid.

Plus Smith was wank last time out against Ryder and was lucky to get that decision.

The Smith that beat Groves could cause an upset, last fight granted was poor. Canelo isn’t the legend he thinks he is but obvs a very good boxer. Massive reach advantage for Smith I think if has the balls to go for it he will cause problems. Betting man says Canelo rounds 8/9 but I will be rooting for an upset

I would never write off an unbeaten fighter and Smith towered above Alvarez at the weigh in, but I can't see him going much past the middle rounds. His only chance is to keep his distance and use his long jab to a points win, although I fear he will need to self-isolate to keep out of trouble.

The question for me is will we see Smith at his best?
if so then he can beat Canelo

Liam Smith gave Canelo a good fight and Callum is a far superior fighter, i don't think Canelo is as good as he is made out to be (he is also a drugs cheat), Smith has a massive reach advantage and the skill and power to show to KO Canelo, i just hope he is in top shape.

Make no mistake, I'd love Smith to win, just can't see it sadly

Yes, if Smith performs like he did in his last fight he's in for a caning. Canelo to win in rounds 5-8 by stoppage.

Don’t think Smith has anything like the power needed to knock out Canelo (GGG couldn’t do it), and he’s never going to win a decision against Canelo in America.

So only one winner for me I’m afraid.

Another bloody subscription channel I know it's only 1.99 but not a chance that will last forever it'll be a tenner a month before you know it.

Well done Smith for going the distance but the ten point deficit was described by the press as a 'bad beating'. Looks like a third fight with GGG is being lined up for Canelo. That will be more entertaining.

Well done Hazi, I hope you were on.

I didn't stay up for it but watched the highlights in the morning.

I thought Smith did well really, he seemed to keep getting Canelo on the ropes although I'm not sure that was a good idea.

Canelo's body shots are brutal and if you are too careful defending against them his upper cuts and hooks aren't too shabby.

I thought they said that the drugs don't work ?

Sorry about that Hazi and ignore all my chite above.

I could swear that the referee stopped it in round 9 after a great body shot from Canelo.

Perhaps it's me on the drugs ?

Smith did really well? Running away from his opponent for 12 rounds?
Don't think Smith's detached bicep helped him. It's hard enough fighting Canelo when you've got your full armoury, no wonder smith was running.
The injury happened in the 2nd by the way 👍🏻

Out of interest, and this is not a slight at all - I am genuinely interested, how many Canelo fights have you watched?

No doubt the clenbuterol mars the character/career, but he's a modern great IMO. I've been watching him for over a decade and the way he has improved is brilliant. It's a basic comparison but he's like a prime Mayweather; fights quite flat footed but his upper body movement is just great to watch - he doesn't waste much of himself and is really calm. Really enjoy seeing him box.

Though, opinions and all that.

DAZN is well worth it for the documentaries and fight archive.

As for the fight, Smith has no chance.

Took the £1.99 DAZN option, well worth the money as watched all of the build-up stuff too. Plus, within the month we have Garcia/Campbell to look forward to - I'll probably keep the subscription for the time being.

You have lost me ss2020!

Sorry Hazi.

I got up on Sunday morning and watched the highlights of Smith/Canelo - or so I thought.

I actually watched highlights of Canelo beating Smith's brother a few years ago - a fight which ended in the 9th round.

I saw that you had tipped Canelo to win in the 9th and congratulated for doing so.

I then went to read up on the fight, only to discover that it had actually gone the distance.

I finally worked out that I had actually watched the wrong fight and was going to come back on here to make myself clear but ended up chunnering on about SPOTY all night.

I hope I have now made things clear but basically I am a c0ck.

Sorry but just goes to show too many alleged champions holding different belts, fact is they don’t all deserve to be called world champion. A few have the real class to deserve that accolade others just hold titles that say world champion but do to deserve it. Sorry but clearly Smith fell into the category of believing in his supposed world title till he met ‘real world class’. World champion but lost by 10 rounds says it all.
