On This Day 30 Years Ago.

Whilst looking up my particular low point yesterday, bizarrely I noticed that it was actually 30 years ago today...

Halifax 5 Blackpool 3.

My memory of that day was us going two up, then possibly 3-1 up. Pissing rain on that open cinder track end, and Halifax banging in four unanswered goals to win 5-3. They definitely hadn't won at home up to that point, and possibly not even scored a goal either, yet somehow conjured that result up against us. Leaving us in the lower reaches of Division Four. I not sure if Graham Carr was in charge that day or if he had just left.. I think he was still there ?

Anyone else go that day ??

I was there. 3 1 up after about 25 minutes? Then a horror show on that open bank.

Just looked it up and there was a gate of 1945.

I will have been there but I've no memory of the match. Terry McPhillips was playing for Halifax in those days. Don't know if he scored.

Yep,remember it.Awful performance against a crap team that were bottom of the League.
Not sure if it was that particular match at Halifax, but on a day we did play them, I remember listening on the radio going over to Man City hammering United 5 or 6 -1.

I was there but don`t remember too much other than Graham Carr receiving dogs abuse towards the end, Tony Rodwell may have scored one or perhaps two first half . Most of their fans were in a shed behind the goal, going mental as the goals went in and sending fireworks at us. The following month though King Billy joined, followed by re signing Dave Bamber in early December, I remember being at his first game away at Hereford.

Did The Shay still have the cinder embankment then?
I used to go to watch Halifax Town as a kid when staying with my God Parents.
Also used to go to the Speedway there.

You are correct they had not scored at home all season. The Halifax fans were giving Billy some stick in the 2nd half.

Yes I was there. Even though we led 3-1 at HT we had played terribly- the second half is best left forgotten. I remember the Halifax fans singing ‘Ayre Out’ throughout the second half, although he was assistant manager at the time. I distinctly remember thinking I hope Stant never plays for us again after a gutless performance despite him scoring a tap in, I think.

Phil Stant, there's a blast from the past. Former member of the SAS wasn't he ? Bet you didn't tell him to his face that you hope he never played for us again 🤣
