o/t Blackpool lights switched off

Agreed, makes perfect sense.; indeed to not turn off the lights might be seen as inviting visitors by some.

Hopefully, if cases drop significantly and restrictions are safely lifted, the council will be in a position to switch them back on in December so local businesses can recover some of their lost revenues (can't see it at the moment though sadly)

I see they're switching them off this week. Might as well save on the 'leccy. Although ironically can you get any more Covid secure than driving down the prom in your sealed car!!

Maybe because it’s not classed as an essential journey going for a tour of the illuminations?

Not an essential journey maybe?

People tempted to get out of the car and buy food maybe?

Hundreds of cars full of families and kids driving an hour to get here, then two or three hours up the prom and an hour home. Nowhere open for them to take a comfort break. Limited outlets to buy refreshments. So they all have to pile out at the first petrol station or supermarkket with facilities that they see. Recipe for mass infection. And only people in Lancashire, where the virus is rampant, should have been coming anyway.
