NEW BLOG: Birmingham Pubs

Nice little journey around Birmingham......

Being a Brummie. born and raised in Harborne.
I do have some great memories of The Prince of Wales....
It used to be a classic Irish boozer, that was owned by my friends mum and we got to have some amazing lock in's, especially when bands played.
Bob Willis & Chris Tarrant were regulars.....Their Sunday afternoon Irish music sessions were stuff of legend.

I lived at the top end of Harborne and in my youth we had 12 pubs on the high street in less than a mile.......15 if you did a 5 min bus ride.
Did you ever do the Harborne Run as people would come from all over Birmingham to do it.
Maybe an idea for another blog

P.S.....The beer garden at the New Inn's....and even the Plough & the Bell are well worth checking out...

Wow some great memories there! I used to love a lock in. Was always such a treat.

Yes I did the Harborne run once. I think I wrote about it for a CAMRA magazine? Years ago, mind. When Hop Garden was still the Sportsman (with THOSE pictures in the toilets).

Went to Newcastle (Stoke) recently (blog to follow) and Stirchley came up in conversation so that's another option for a future trip to Brum. So many pubs, so little time...

I can strongly recommend Chesterfield for a boozy real ale trip which I did this weekend. There is the infamous Brampton Mile pub crawl, but there are also plenty of very good pubs just in the town centre which we did (the Rutland, The Market, The Pig&Pump, The Sun and a couple of ‘Spoons if you want a pint for less than £2). Followed by a good curry in Ashoka.

Also with a very active Saturday market in the big Market Square. In the morning, you will also hear the screeching of the peregrine falcon nesting on the top of the famous crooked spire.

Wow love the falcon detail here - thank you!

I did a Chesterfield crawl when we played there during the boycott (I think). I know I only went to tick off the ground anyway and I decided to make a day of it. The main thing I remember was a random picture of a robin on the inside of the door in the toilets of a micropub. The Rutland (I think) used to be our Pub of Choice in Chesterfield (is that the one under the spire?). Remember drinking Baileys with a load of bikers in there.

Will add this to my list to visit (I actually have a beer pal in Chesterfield). Thank you for the recommendation.
