My Dad was an entertainer.

He was on the stage from 1934 through until his death in 1974, partly as one of Butlin's original Redcoats at Filey and Clacton before WW2 and then with Prestatyn Holiday Camp from 1948 through till 1961 when he joined Pontins in Blackpool as Entertainments Manager.

Why am I telling you this? Well, one of his favourite songs was 'when you're smiling', and I woke up this morning with a smile and the song going through my head after yesterday's great performance by the Pool.

So, this is for you Dad. When you're smiling, when you're smiling, the whole world smiles with you ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜†

That's a long time to be on a stage! Who brought him all his food and drink?!!! ๐Ÿ˜‚

It's great that you are still vividly thinking of him all these years later. My dad hasn't long left now but I'm very grateful to have been able to build up so many happy memories for the times after he has gone.

I could never forget my Dad, he was a great bloke, and always lit up the room when he walked in. My one regret is that he never saw his Grandkids. They would have loved him as much as I do.

Wilf, MrsDPs Grandad was manger when it was Squires Gate Holiday Camp, and her Grandma was Head House-keeper.
She can't remember when they left.

Something heartwarming about learning the story of a proper Blackpool entertainer. Iโ€™ve worked in traveler/backpacker type hostels and bars for a few years now, either managing the bar or the event and I know I couldnโ€™t do it as well as I do without the seaside genes! When a night goes really well and weโ€™ve got a load of happy punters I thank my lucky stars I learned from the best

Curryman, are you still sporting your tangerine trilby?
I retired that many years ago, as it was beginning to fall to bits. But still have it with all badges attached. Probably worth around ยฃ70 just for the badges.
You obviously took after your mum then Wilf!!! ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚
My mum was also a cracker, poor dear ended up with dementia and died in her eightees. So hopefully not, as it's a terrible affliction. But, when you're smiling!!!!
