Much better

And in all honesty 3 points would have been the right outcome.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, I'm not sure Crewe are a bad side, we were just a lot better although we are really struggling to create any clear cut chances. I keep saying it's going to take time and it really is. We have more new players to come in to the reckoning but at least there are no more transfers so what we have is what we have.

Williams in the DM position was what we have been missing and he was probably my MOM although I thought Turton was excellent as an outlet on the right and he really got about the pitch. Robson and Ward benefitted from having Williams shoring things up. I thought the back 4 as a whole were pretty good but we were caught out by a counter attack.

My main worry is the front 3. Madine looks the part and I think he will be leading the line for the rest of the season. Yates ran his socks off again, but he doesn't have an end product so I expect Woodburn to come in there and CJ caused problems with his pace although I thought he tired in the last 20 and a couple of pairs of fresh legs to replace him and Yates for the last 15 may have been a better tactic.

So, who do we use up front? Madine? I think so. If we have a fully fit KaiKai I would consider him too as he scores goals but can go missing. I think you have to play Woodburn. So CJ and Kaikai fight it out for the other place with probably Yates. Although NC may rotate Madine and Yates depending on who we are playing.

It may have seemed a bit frustrating but all in all that was a good performance and an improving one. It is going to take a while yet but I truly believe this will be a great team in the future and we will be there or there about the top 6 come the end of the season.

My main worries are ball watching in defence, the amount of times Williams gives the ball away cheaply, the complete lack of any goal threat from an isolated disjointed and shot shy front three, the ludicrous lack of shots for the possession, the amount of sideways passing that allows the game to slip away from us and the fact that unless he can bring Williams on Coach Critchley doesn’t have a clue about subs.

plenty getting giddy about rescuing a point from going behind yet again but the fundamentals need to change or we are cannon fodder. The new lads had better be impactful or we are bang in trouble.

Can't add much to that, though i wouldn't rule out Lubala out of making a decent contribution with decent coaching. I'll also add Ekpiteta has settled down the last 2 matches with decent performances

Turts was good going forward and is worthy of his place, but still scares the hell out of me when a winger runs against him

Sorry I don't agree with that at all Clappers. I just think these tactics and style of play are difficult to perfect and we are getting some of it right and some of it is still not up to the standard it needs to be to work fully. That's why I think it could take 15 games or more for the players to really get it.

Let's reconvene after 23 games Clappers and see how we're doing.

Agree with much of that.
There have been plenty of comments saying we're clueless but that's just not true. We need to do a lot of work on set pieces, and we need to work on finding that final incisive pass to get behind the defence.
But anyone who doesn't think we dominated that from start to finish was watching a different game. We were positive, on the front foot, dictating the tempo and high workrate pretty much all way through. There are obviously plenty of things to work on but the basis for getting results is there.
The important thing for me was seeing improvements today, and we absolutely did.

C.J. first on team sheet without a shadow of doubt

I hope you’re right but I really do think these new lads need to deliver, and if we are to do well it won’t be with Williams in the starting 11

I think Critchley seems way out of his depth in this league. He may have been good with a Liverpool under 21 side but the facts are that league 1 is much tougher and you have to fight and adapt for every point in this league. Just look how Sunderland have performed in this league for the last few seasons and they had experienced managers and players. Critchley needs to start looking at a plan B when the tippy tappy stuff isn’t working or we are going to struggle big time.

I don't know what game you were watching but Williams barely gave the ball away today or put a foot wrong, was very assured in possession. Guess it's just the next easiest target from Turton for people to go for.

I don't know what game some are watching sometimes, honestly I don't. Williams was arguably our best player today, hardly gave the ball away at all and gave the back four good protection. I think he carelessly lost it once while in possession and that's about it. The opposition barely had a sniff, which tends not to happen if your holding midfielder is giving the ball away constantly.

I’m all for optimism but let’s keep it vaguely believable eh! No chance of top six with this guy in charge. You’re raving because we got a draw at Crewe? Crewe who are favourites for relegation, haven’t spent a penny, and we got a point. And Critchley who’s been backed massively settled for a point and didn’t make a substitution. At Crewe!!!!!

Agree Williams playing made a difference today, not convinced by Mitchell yet

Mitchell has potential to be a very good player for us. But defensively he's very naive which means you shouldn't be playing him in a side that has been struggling defensively. It was the correct call by Critchley to opt for Garbutt but unfortunately had no choice in the end due to the injury.

I suppose he could have put Ballard on and put Husband to left back, but i thought Mitchell did well today and he gives an attacking option.

Was much better. Back 4 did OK, midfield an improvement, front 3 OK but there is little connection between these 3.

I'd rest CJ. As our only real in on goal threat, he's getting hounded out. Until we have other threats for teams to look out for, he's not going to be the players we know he is.

That’s why Woody needs to be on pronto. Don’t understand posters saying don’t rush him in to the side.

I feel the front 3 are playing too far apart and Madine is isolated. At least when the ball is on the right, our left sided forward should be getting closer to Madine. Not enough support from midfield either. Nonetheless, a big improvement and just need the front 3 to play closer so they find each other to create good chances. Madine MOTM for me.

If Madine is the spearhead then he needs players nearer to him when it's played up to him. He gets it and there's noone within 30 yards of him. Get a partnership going and we'll murder teams. As it is, were a little isolated up front.

I noticed that today, which is surprising considering the way we are supposed to be playing, maybe Woodburn or Kaikai?

Their goal summed up how poor we’ve been at the back. They had possession and yet Husband was in an advanced midfield position. When not in position, you’d expect a good shape. Naive. Good job we’ve got better options in defence from now

That’s bang on. If we do start competing it won’t be with the team we played today.

we deserved a win today but not creating anywhere near enough chances i thought j williams gave us far more balance today probably our stand out player.

Nearly word for word what Ormerod said on radio lancs.
