Little known musical gems 🎸 🎧 🎵 🎶

The Creation - If I Stay Too Long.

You might mostly be familiar, but a longtime favourite track of mine. Though they reformed in the 80s, like them there were so many mod/beat/etc groups that had marginal success with a sole single or LP and faded away in the 60s - but The Creation had a lasting influence (Alan McGhee named his label after them and they are cited as an influence from everyone to The Who, to Weller to the Sex Pistols).

Jim Sullivan - U.F.O.

Anyone know this? On a bit of a Hazlewood/Nilsson tip. He released two albums and then literally disappeared off the face of the earth; his car was found abandoned in 1975 and he was never seen again.

Goo Goo Dolls, known widely for the song Iris and cover versions of that song. They’ve released some cracking songs. This one is from 2019 Miracle Pill album:

Autumn Leaves:

Michael McDermott, American singer / songwriter. For lovers of Springsteen and Dylan. Even his recent album ‘Orphans’ of tracks which didn’t make it onto other full albums, is a cracker.

Just West of Eden:

Need Some Surrender:

Forever:

The Idler, The Prophet and a Girl Called Rain (all 9 minutes of it):

Better than Ezra, from the alt. rock 90’s classic album: ‘Friction, Baby’.

Desperately Wanting:

King of New Orleans:

Rewind:

Phil Campbell, from the epic, criminally unknown album: ‘Fresh New Life’.

Let Me Inside:

Keep It Calm:

Lately:

Evangaline:

Last edited:
The Loveless, from the power pop unknown classic album, ‘A Tale of Gin and Salvation.’ With razor sharp lyrics, the band are in top notch form throughout.

If I Only Knew Then:

Lies My Father Told Me:

I Almost Miss You:

Can’t Stand Loving You:

Sex, Drugs, and Rock n Roll are Dead:

The Devlins, from the excellent mellow rock of 90’s ‘Waiting’ album.

World Outside:

Heaven’s Wall:

Waiting:

Years Could Go By:

Big Decision:

Pilot Speed, from ‘Into the West album’ - the first song ‘Alright’ from the film Death Sentence with Kevin Bacon.

Alright:

Into Your Hideout:

Over-Ground:

I Won’t Blame You:

The Wallflowers. Son of Dylan, Jakob, with these from the very special album, ‘Bringing Down the Horse.

One Headlight:

6th Avenue Hearteache:

Bleeders:

Angel on My Bike:

Love the music to the On the Beach advert and it turns out to be an Iggy Pop number ( remixed a tad) didn’t even know it was him at the end of the advert either, and him narrating.

Not seen that full version before. Much better than the short version we normally get to see.
Cracking ad. 👍

4 pretty unique rock cover versions, which arguably improve on the originals:

HIM - Wicked Game

Bang Tango - 20th Century Boy

Guns N’ Roses - Sympathy for the Devil

Gun - Word Up

Some of my fave female cover versions. Never tire of listening to these brilliant versions:

Kim Kuzma - Here Comes the Rain Again

Vanessa Carlton - A Thousand Miles

Birdy - Wings

Leona Lewis - Run

Diamond Head, the band covered by Metallica song (Am I Evil), from the immense hard rock album ‘Death and Progress’:
Dust

Run

Home

Blessid Union of Souls, from the brilliant alt rock s/t album:

I Wanna Be There

Scenes from a Coffee House (You’ll Always Be Mine)

It’s Your Day (Bronson’s Song)

Humble Star

Fisher, mostly from the exceptional double album, Uppers and Downers. Also worth seeking out her Acoustic Cafe album and debut album.
Closer:

Oblivious:

Remind Me:

I Will Love You:

Dream On (Aerosmith cover):

Think this band in general never got the love they deserved. This song basically got me through my last year at Uni.
I think they get disregarded as a Indie landfill band due to Chelsea Dagger but they actually have some exceptional songs. 2nd album was great as well, still listen to them now - some of the guitar work is fantastic!

In keeping with the thread I'll post one a tune of theirs from one of their later albums:

Before the Fleetwood Mac superstardom..

This is the song that made Mick Fleetwood enquire about getting Buckingham in Fleetwood Mac, who joined only on the premise that his girlfriend could come with him as well. The rest is history!

Never heard that before. Some familiar sounding guitar riffs for the change of band sound.
Must be best 2 for 1 deal ever getting Stevie Nicks 😁
