Lightning strikes boy

Very sad news, what a freak incident.

We dont get much lightning, or much that hits the ground i didn't think and to hit a kid in a field... rather than something metal....

Incredibly unlucky and tragic. Poor little guy.

Absolutely horrible.

Beyond comprehension what his family will be going through.

His poor team mates and coaches that witnessed it as well.

Tragic

Awful news! I had my 9yr lad at football training tonight and came home and seen it on twitter and really feel heart broken for the family , God bless him

RIP little man.
Time to play with the legends in heaven.
This has brought me to tears, I can't imagine how his friends and family feel.
God bless.

I'm so sorry for the family and what they're going through. I just can't imagine the horror of losing a child in that way. God bless the little fella.

Words can't sum up this tragedy. RIP little man. Heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

I also saw it approaching from over the sea. Looked very ominous. Such a tragic freak accident. Life can be so unfair sometimes.
RIP little fella 😢

My heart goes out to his parents and family. Absolutely devastating that a young life could be taken away so tragically by a freak of nature.

My thoughts and best wishes to anyone affected by this tragedy.

I cannot for the life of me comprehend what his family are going through right now, they must be in a daze and hoping to wake up from a really bad nightmare.

Tragic, absolutely tragic.💔

My heart goes out to the family, it will be so difficult to come to terms with what's happened, to have your child taken away like that is so cruel and difficult to comprehend.

It really is heart breaking, just had to tell my daughter who knew him but is a year above. She is taking some flowers and putting them by the school gates. The poor family... RIP little fella

I coached my own son's team from being 6 to 17.
The lads become your extended family.
You watch them grow up.

God bless little fella. RIP

Thoughts with the family 😢

Thoughts go out to the family but also the coaches who must be utterly devastated this morning.

Struggling to put into words how I am feeling about this tragic incident, the poor boy, his poor family, his friends and coaches, they must all be devastated.
RIP little fella ⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽

Absolutely dreadful.

My Nan saw someone struck by lightening when she was a little girl. For the rest of her life she hid under the stairs whenever there was a thunderstorm.

It's unimaginable what this little boys family must be going through.
Terribly sad news, RIP little guy x

I wonder if the lightning was attracted to the metal poles (lights?) on-site? People need to be aware that the lightning strike can travel through the ground and still get you from a distance away.
More lightning forecast from 5pm today. !!!

Not in the area but tracked the storm as it moved up from Liverpool on radar (very amateur weather watcher). Seems it moved up very rapidly and clashed with some sinking cold, effectively 'recharging' it as it descended on Blackpool. Then disappeared as quickly as it came in after numerous lightning strikes.

An awful, awful tragedy and a billion to one chance likely of the right conditions occurring like this and that poor little angel being there 😭

I had a reminiscent walk recently on Common Edge playing fields having not been on there for many, many years. The first thing I noticed was how much metal had been errected on there - metal fences with sectioned off areas, perimeter fences, floodlight pylons, sign posts etc. It all looked an eyesore compared to before and had taken away much of the natural look that it always had before.

I suppose it may never be know if these man-made constructions have led to this tragedy or whether it was just a freak of nature. Unbelievably sad no matter what happened.
