I see that Rishi Sunak l had a Marie Antoinette moment yesterday. He visited a homeless shelter on Friday, accompanied by the media, where after a brief exchange he asked a man whether he worked in business. The man replied that he was homeless. Sunak then discussed his background in the finance industry and asked if it would be something the man would “like to get in to”.
The man replied: “I wouldn’t mind, but I don’t know, I’d like to get through Christmas first.”

Perhaps Sunak was going to put in a word for the chap with PwC, KPMG or Accenture.

Wow how devoid are they of any understanding of the real world?

I imagine it’s probably not helped either when the elite turn up to these media opportunities. I doubt they display it warts and all with someone jacking up in the corner and another pissed off his gourd covered head to toe in 5 day old vomit.

Instead it will be sanitised and they’ll roll out the most presentable homeless person to show the good work the charity is doing which frankly defeats the object.

'What line of business are you in?'

'I'm homeless, a homeless person'.

Cue awkward silence.

As well as the finance stuff, asking him if he’s been here before and it’s a great place talking about a homeless shelter was toe curling stuff followed by “what your plans for the weekend?”…I had to turn it off before the end. Felt awkward as fook watching it

What a socially awkward out of touch gimp. No idea what’s going on in the real world and no understanding of how to sort it or apparent want to try and sort it. All there for a PR gig 🤮

Cringeworthy from an unelected robotic Will McKenzie / Alan Partridge wannabe. Tells you everything you need to know about the state of the people running this country.

No doubts we’ll have a few on here blaming the guy he was speaking to for being homeless.

If Sir Kier had done the same, asked if he fancied being a human rights lawyer... I’ve no doubt the spin on this board would have been entirely different...

But he didn`t!!

Usually you try to balance current political misdemeanours under discussion by dredging up some sort of `whataboutery`, but this is a new tactic - simply imagining stuff to balance things out. Footballification of politics at its most bizarre....

🤣.... and the personal attacks commence...dear me..🤣

The bloke who fucked up our economy (giving away money like confetti) comes second in a vote for new leader and then gets the top job anyone is surprised the bloke is a heap of crap.

...of course as yet no one has bothered to listen properly... cue Dean using the word “ business” prior to the PM comment... still wouldn’t suit the narrative....
Merry Xmas to all RW and LWNJs...🧡

That I am not a fan of Sunak would be a very big understatement but you are not wrong.

Sunak was the first to refer to business and then the chap did say he was interested in business, then Sunak began his great opportunities in business and not just in London etc, etc.

What I can't believe is that Sunak involves himself in such a charade without thinking things through properly first or perhaps I should say I can't believe he doesn't employ the right people to think things through properly for him.

It goes without saying that his behaviours and every word are going to be thoroughly scrutinised so he should be ready for everything and surely the goal must be for viewers to form positive opinions of a personal side to him after watching.

I see that some folk - not on here - are suggesting that Sunak should have invited the chap for Xmas dinner at his home with his - Sunak's - family, not that I'd have a problem with that but I wouldn't be sure of the logistics and he'd be opening himself up to all sorts of criticism about how the PM hadn't fed the rest of the country etc, etc.

I do not know exactly how Sunak should have handled the situation and I'm not pretending that I do but I can't help feel that others would have dealt with things in a far better manner and come out of it more positively.

Whatever any of us may think about Boris Johnson - that's as a person, his premiership or whatever - I would be amazed if he hadn't handled things better.

Of course, it's entirely possible that I am being overly cynical myself and that this was just a genuine good deed from our PM who just wanted to make Xmas better for some of those who have fallen on hard times and that I really shouldn't be looking into things so deeply ?

If that's the case, why didn't Sunak just put his name down to volunteer at his local soup kitchen/foodbank - perhaps that should be the nearest kitchen/foodbank, forgive my ongoing cynicism but I'm thinking that there aren't too many soup kitchens in close proximity of Sunak towers - and go along and help out all the other staff there and perhaps invite some of them round to have Xmas dinner with his family WITHOUT THE FECKIN CAMERAS.

Sorry for the chunnering on today of all days and wishing everybody a great enjoyable festive period.

God Bless

Good post. Ultimately these stunts are worthless. As you said they are scrutinzed to the nth degree so you cannot win. This event was absolutely shocking though. Nearly as bad as him not knowing how to deliver petrol into the "placed" small car Sainsburys laid on for him.

Great to see the PM out helping serve food to the homeless. Makes me feel embarrassed sitting in a warm home enjoying Christmas.

I did watch it and, yes, the homeless man did open the topic. However asking him what business he is in then asking if he'd like to go into financial services and finally, what his plans were for the weekend - it's crass at the very least. Sunak should have had more Intelligence. He is supposed to be the PM.

I viewed the conversation differently and thought Dean was enjoying the conversation.... let’s leave it there and have a kick about between the front lines... it is Xmas 😁... you and yours have great day👍🧡

I agree. Rishi Sunak was chatting to Dean with respect in my opinion and was unpatronising. Dean is well spoken and might have a prior background in business… He perhaps shouldn’t have asked him what his plans for the weekend were though….😔
