Last time we beat Shrewsbury Town?

Can only go back 12 games on the site I found. 8 losses and 4 draws. Proper bogey team

Yep. Rochdale traditionally not a happy hunting ground but wins at Burton, Charlton and Oxford prove it can be done.

Shrewsbury with nothing to play for. Just hope they don’t do what most crap teams do when they come here and play 5-5-0
They're a 3-5-2 team same as Accrington and Rochdale so expecting to feel outnumbered in midfield again, and their subs to look better than our subs, if Harry Chapman starts off the bench again for them; talented lad. That sinking feeling in the second half of games when you know the opposition are changing things for a reason and we can't really offer a response with our seven spares.

You see, we have good subs. Pity is they’re all defensive subs. I’d have hooked Kaikai for Gabriel quicker last night, Mitchell for Embleton and Holmes for Simms all on the hour mark.

That’s my one gripe with Critchley. His subs are reactionary. Usually after conceding. But like you say, hamstrung at the minute due to lack of options up top

Last time we beat them was 1997, we haven't played them much to be fair though.

Since then we've met 12 times, lost 9, drawn 3. Bloody ell.

Yes I think it was a Tuesday night game, but I wouldn't have remembered the day either without checking.
I was in the South Paddock and a young lad stood near me said he was Dave Tong's brother (DT had left us for Shrewsbury the season before). He was quite chatty but got quieter as the game went on. Whilst I'd love another 5-0, I'd take 1-0 and a decent performance this time.

As for bogey teams, in the early 80's I think we had 91 of them. We were awful and would have made last night look like we were Brazil.

Shrews were top of the league and went up too.

As for last night being worst we have ever played , remInds me of Simon Cowell from X Factor days. ” That was the worst performance I ever seen”. Rinse and repeat the next week.

There was something about that 5-0 win in 1979. Something to do with the kick off time being early? Possibly to do with floodlights? I’m no statto and feel free to shoot me down but I’m sure the game ended in daylight?

I’m sure we won there 3-1,New Years Day 1997,one of very few games played that day owing to bad weather conditions.
Yes, and with the risk of sounding like a Barnet attendee. I was there 👍. Preece scored, I remember that. He had tangerine gloves on. It was very snowy, one of the very few games to go ahead that day. I remember being stood in a car park in Market Drayton on the way, wondering what the hell I was doing 😂, worth it though. Many chants of "tangerine ball" that day too 🧡😂

I remember this game really well. At the time I was doing my level 2 badge at Blackpool. The first paragraph summed up the whole game. It was flipping dreadful. 🤣

I was there too with a young Insiderson. The journey through the Shropshire lanes was a bit hairy to say the least and 2 goals from Andy Preece secured a victory at a snowy Gay Meadow.

79's 5-0 win was a normal night match, scorers were Stan McEwan with a first half pen and second half bullet header, Tony Kellow completed the rout with a second half hat trick.

Early kick off game (5.30? )was against Darlington in the Rumbelows Cup 1990, floodlights were being or had been replaced.

You may be right but I hope not.

No he doesn’t, it was a midweek night match, they were top of the league from memory.

Correct, it was a Wednesday night, I went. We were in mid table obscurity but I think the appeal of going was with them being top of the table and also possibly on a really good FA Cup run, I think they knocked out Man City on a frost pitch covered in straw, and then played the Cup Holders Ipswich at home in the next round, cant remember if they won.

Steamgun. Isn't your picture from that game ?? On Phil Heywood Photography site there is a load of pictures from games from 1979, there was loads of the Shrewsbury game including of a mini pitch invasion and a kid in mid air jumping backwards !! Just looked for it now, and access is blocked 😥

That record against the shrews is abysmal , funny since I had a season ticket from 94-2003 pretty much every team was a bogey team. Remember trembling at the thought of York City ffs
