Hull City v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 16.01.21

Say 1-1 as happy with a draw as they have a couple of new players. Four points taken from one of the promotion favorites would be good.

This is a difficult one to predict. Pool have bone well against the top sides (except for Lincoln where they lost a game they had seemingly won). Marty Virtue Will stiffen the midfield so they might get something, but it’s tough to call.

Think we will struggle to be honest with the injuries and Hull isn’t a great hunting ground for us.

BTW isn’t their club logo utter rubbish?

With no CJ and Kemp now gone, leaving us without anyone to play on the right wing, I can see us playing 433 again, so we'll struggle to score.
Wonderful.

433 still requires wingers though??
I meant whenever we play 433, there is very little link up play between Madine & Yates, because they don't link up together as well as when there is just the two of them playing through the middle. Yates will probably be out wide if he decides to start him and Madine.
Yes it will mean we play wingers in 433, but the flow of our attack stutters.

Ah got you! Hopefully he will stick to 442 and try Mitchell out wide on the wing. Looked lively every time he's come on as a sub.

It would be good to see what he can do without having to worry about defending more than getting forward.
He'd have Husband behind him tomorrow too so would be able to get forward plenty with cover behind him.
I've a feeling if we go 442 it'll be Woodburn, if it's 433 it'll be Yates, Madine & Bez.

Tough game this, Hull, in my opinion are the best team to have visited Bloomfield in the League and will be out for revenge. In the absence of CJ I would play Jordan Gabriel as a right winger in front of Turton. Gabriel is quick, strong and willing to take on a defender. I don't like the idea of Mitchell on the right he is just too left-footed.

Think we are going to struggle tomorrow. Hull are definitely one of the better teams this season, just hope Critch doesn't just set us up to try to stop them. We may be struggling against the weather as well, snow heading towards the east coast tonight.

Probably 4-3-3 away from home, keeping it tight. Our threat may have to come through the middle and I can foresee a midfield of Kaikai, Dougall and Virtue/Ward.

Hull have only scored 10 at home in 9 games so I would attack them with the 442,if we’re to get to 6th place we need to win as many games as possible.Let’s take teams on and see where it gets us,as for the result maybe 1 1 .

Any news anywhere on CJ? And is he only 5’7” ? Thought he was taller than that.

Gabriel, KaiKai, Ward, Virtue, Lubala, Anderson, Woodburn and Sarkic are all able to play on the right. With CJ out and Anderson and possibly KaiKai out too I think we’re still capable of putting a fairly attack minded front 3/4 out on the pitch regardless. It may well be that a bit of a shake up is needed to get a performance out of some of the lesser performing players. Woodburn may well have his last chance, Sarkic needs to show some quality too. Here’s hoping we get a good performance. We played a team not considered our strongest against WBA and played really well. Here’s hoping for more of the same.

Predicted lineup:

Yates Madine
Lubala Dougall Ward KaiKai
Garbutt Husband Ekpiteta Turton
Maxwell

We managed to haul ourselves within 8 points of Hull when we beat them in December and now we have to beat them again just to keep that 8 point differential.
The three league games since then have cost us dear.
If they play as well as they did against West Brom though they are more than capable of getting a decent result.
I'm hoping for a win as always but I'd settle for a draw. Anything less would bog us back down in mid table again.

If we play 4-4-2 with Madine & Yates in partnership we could easily sneak a narrow win.
If Critch reverts to type and goes 4-3-3 I can see nothing but a sorry defeat without a meaningful shot on goal.
We simply must play to our strengths & make other teams worry about our attack minded players.
If our game plan is to try and nullify the other team then we are doomed to failure.

Away from home he will include Virtue, and possibly Robson on the left for balance. If Ballard is fit, I wouldn’t let Husband anywhere near a CB position.

I'm normally pessimistic - it helps me cope - but I can't help feeling we're going to pull off a really decent win today.
I'm going 3-1 to the mighty.

Going confident and 0-2 to us. Won't be an easy game though. I have my half time pie ready to be warmed in the oven so I've done as much as I can to prepare. Just need the lads to do their bit.

A draw, and further mid-table obscurity is no good whatsoever.
We must play 4-4-2 and try to get the three points. Madine and Yates are a handful playing that system against most opposition but both are pretty much ineffective as lone strikers.
Come on Neil, let's play 4-4-2 today and we will beat Hull 2-1.

Wonder where we will be in the league at 5.00 tonight, it’s no use asking NC because he said he doesn’t know where we are in the league, he doesn’t know how many points we have or how far we are off the play offs. So is he interested or not? Seems a peculiar outlook for a manager to me.🤔

Blackpool make two changes from last weekend's FA Cup win over WBA. IN: Marvin Ekpiteta and Sullay Kaikai OUT: Daniel Gretarsson and Dan Kemp TEAM: Maxwell, Turton, Ekpiteta, Ballard, Husband, Dougall, Ward, Lubala, Kaikai, Yates, Madine

Pretty sure this is the exact team I said yesterday, dont really have many other options. We need to get a few signing in soon. With CJ out and Kemp gone, we are so short in the right. Hope Virtue comes on second half, was a burst of energy in the team against WB when he came on.
