Hardest

Which player do you reckon has had the hardest shot in your time watching Blackpool?

Anyone approaching Bobby Charlton or Peter Lorimer, who were famed for being hotshots?

Charlie could lash a ball for starters.

Difficult.
Don't forget that, in earlier days, the balls were heavy leather. Eddie Shimwell, full back, had a powerful strike, not necessarily a shot.
Took penalties, and rarely missed.
Todays footballs are much lighter, so will move quicker.

When I was pondering the question it struck me that most of our goalscorers were more the type to place the ball rather than leather it.

It's a myth that footballs are lighter now . They still weigh exactly the same . The difference is in the material and the fact that they don't absorb any water .

I would think that with the old ball actually absorbing the water, it would make them heavier.
Also lots of mud on pitches in those days.

Played sunday league football with Sam (simon) Lorimer and he too had a belting shot on him along with a questionable attitude towards paying his weekly subs......

Alan Gow had a hell of a left foot piledriver. I don't think we saw the best of him, but I remember him coming back with someone else later, on as a sub having his usual sort of game , then suddenly let a volley go from about 30 yards, left scorck marks on the post as it went past. I doubt our keeper even saw it.

Cannot remember if it was Methven or Graham Barrow hit a shot from 40 yards that was still accelerating when it hit the back of the net. Stunned silence before celebrations

A slight detour of thread. Bought nephew a ball which claims to measure how fast its travelled.

I remember Coid scored a screamer at Colchester in a 2-0 win. I think it was tracked as the hardest hit shot of that weekend.

For Blackpool Charlie Adam struck a freekick against Scunthorpe in 2009 I think, was a scorcher of a strike, I also remember, I think it was Sone Aluko, hit a shot just wide, it was so hard it snapped the cord holding the net up. outside of Blackpool one of the hardest hitters of a ball has to be Thomas Hitlezberger, nicknamed der hammer.

Cant argue with any of the above and we do have a poster called Hetzke blaster!!
Thanks for the prompt matey 😁 I've only just read the post. I must say, I could never get over how hard Steve Hetzke used to hit his penalties, generally straight down the middle of the goal. They either rattled the net, took the keeper out or ended up over the bar and finished in row z of the south stand. The power he hit the ball with always stuck in my mind - hence the Username 😃

Richard Walker's famous header vs Plymouth was harder than any shot seen at Bloomfield Road before or since!

Simmo had that weird ability to lash it but keep it low so it looked less spectacular, but it always had good pace on it
