Ethan Robson

A very well-written and presented report, Dan. To date, utmp. is the most professional Blackpool FC blog I've seen. Up the Mighty Pool!

Had a look on the Pompey forum and they weren't too impressed by the prospect of signing him - even if they were under the impression it was nailed on. Whilst Blackpool fans are on the whole very happy with the signing. I think the lad has made a smart move, and it's always best to be at a club where you're wanted.

Also Portsmouth sound like a club in a bit of a crisis if you read their board. The owners from Disney don't seem to want to invest any money and by all account they're unimpressed with the signings being made. They all seem to hate Kenny Jackett and seem to think they're looking down instead of up. One thread on their was basically just their fans saying they're no longer a Championship club and should accept being League 1 for the forseeable. It's all a bit suicidal. Nice to not be them :)

Leaving your home town club, especially a big one like Sunderland, can often be the making of a young player. Hopefully that will be the case for Ethan.

Boo Hoo lol

Do we know why Sunderland released him?
Chopping and changing their managers, each seemingly with their own ideas which he never appears to have fit with to such a degree where he was ever given a proper opportunity. Probably one of the reasons why Sunderland will continue to struggle until they instill a proper vision and plan from top to bottom at the club.
Their loss could be our gain.

His knack of picking up injuries is a worry though, it would be foolish to think that those occurrences are just going to vanish now he has signed for us,

Is that possibly because some Portsmouth fans heads are still in the Premier league?

This looks a cracking signing. Could the kind of player we've missed since Vaughan, only this time we're nicking him from Sunderland on a freebie!

We are going up say, we are going up ,we are going up ,yeeeeeees (look out nobbers the mighty Tangerines are a coming to get you)(just for the odd ball pne supporters who occasionally post on here ,but rarely post on their own site ),are you watching ,are you watching ,are you watching pne 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀,don't see them laughing about our signings,or even commenting about them (that green eyed idol god's getting to them me thinks) thank you lord Simon sadler ❤️ .

That’s the spirit😁

A decent enough signing but not sure this puts the Adam rumours to bed. He could learn a lot from the Charlester.

we will probably go into this season as well prepared as we ever have been so highly likely we will start with a winless run and no points after 5 games or something. Typical Blackpool!

With Robson in and Fonz gone we definitely need 1 more experienced head to pick the squad up in tough times.
That said, the transfer policy so far has been collected and concise, no complaints from me.

Has been really unfortunate with injuries in the past two seasons and therefore hasn't played as much as he might. But there's a real clamour to see the talented midfield academy graduate more. Fans want him to stay. - From the Sunderland Chronicle

There may well have to a degree of patience next season. Getting a load of exciting looking young hungry players is great but there will be a bedding in time, for the manager as well. But saying that it's very exciting times ahead.

Interesting that in Mansford’s article he talks about Critchley spotting things in players performances that even they didn’t know about. Read between the lines of what Sunderland fans have said and that’s exactly what he has been missing!!

The strategy is good from a business sense, all it takes is one to come up trumps and the sell on fee will cover the outlay on the rest. With the plan to have a young, hungry and energetic style, it should make for exciting viewing. Add to that, better coaching and fitness conditioning and we could be on to a winner. As others have pointed out, a little bit of experience wouldn't go a miss, I can't think of a single successful team that didn't have that, in addition to a strong leader/captain.

Plenty of time left, maybe the experience will come later in the window when our targets wage expectations start to lower?

I didn't. Never rated him and he made the situation worse.

I thought he was genuinely sold a pup. He was told to establish an academy and he brought in loads of cheap young players En masse, but then told that this would effectively then prevent him from signing proper quality players for the first team. He thought he was building a first team and an academy at the same time, Karl was just filling the squad with numbers in cheap deals and then pulling up the drawbridge behind him leaving Riga completely stranded.
