Ethan Robson

'Blackpool started the transfer window at an impressive pace, bringing in Keshi Anderson, Marvin Ekpiteta, CJ Hamilton, Oliver Sarkic and Jerry Yates in the first 24 days of the market being open.

Since then, things have slowed down a little for Simon Grayson’s men, but a deal for Robson could kickstart their recruitment drive back into life.'
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I looked at the responses on Twitter when we were first linked with him and the general consensus seemed to be he’s a good player, but very injury prone.

23 year old Sunderland Midfielder Ethan Robson supposedly going to sign but the website has a picture of Larry on it and so I might take it with a pinch of salt!

Linked with both Rangers and Celtic 2 years ago , so some pedigree for sure. From a search , largely a holding midfielder with a good range of passing left footed with good dead ball delivery, weaknesses are aerial ability and not the quickest but compensated by good game reading ability.

Sounds quite similar to another left footed icon we have had in recent times. I think this is exactly the sort of player we need to balance out our attacking squad

There’s a really good article and interview with him from the Sunderland Echo dated 29th June following his release. He comes across really well and from what I’ve seen of his playing ability I think he will be a good signing. Rumoured to be undergoing medical prior to signing.

I don’t know anything about the lad, but if he is half as good as either of his namesakes we are in for a treat.

It’s a great article. The lad definitely sounds like he has unfinished business.

I like the sound of this one. Seems to have a great attitude, has impressed when and where he has been given the opportunity to play, and he's a good age for developing. At 6ft he's not light weight either and will add a but of muscle in the middle of the park, which I think we will need if we're playing attacking football - as some teams will try kick us off the park. The fact Rangers and Celtic were in for him just 2 years ago and Chris Coleman rated him enough to give him game time in the Championship suggests the lad has the right attributes.

Seems to get forward and likes to back himself to finish the move.... a few times there other players would look to make the pass. Reminds me a little of Longstaff and even KDH

“It wasn’t an easy decision to leave Sunderland, which is where I’ve grown up and developed over the years. But, after speaking to Neil Critchley and hearing what he had to say about the team and where he wants to take it, I felt it was a journey I wanted to be a part of.

“Blackpool is on the up, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the future brings here,” added Robson, who spent 15 years at Sunderland.

Neil Critchley added: ”I’m excited to welcome Ethan to Blackpool, and I am really looking forward to working with him.
“He’s a highly rated, athletic midfielder who I have been aware of for a number of years and watched him develop at Sunderland.

“I believe he will be a valuable asset to the team, and he fits the profile well of the type of player we want to bring to the club,” he added.

The fact we’ve beaten the likes of Pompey for his signature shows how far we’ve come as a club in such a short time under Sadler.
Looks another good signing for the club 👍🏼

Like the sound of that.

Very happy with this signing, another of the right age who should improve further.
Central midfield was undoubtedly an area we needed to strengthen and this appears to tick that box.

Anyone else having Season Ticket rethinks! Sounds like a key signing to me, you just get a gut feeling sometimes that the last few pieces in the puzzle are dropping into place, as someone mentioned, anything like his namesake then he will do for me.

This sounds like a good signing to me as well. Puts another key piece of the puzzle together. Holding midfielder, good brain and passing ability and a fair physical size. From looking round and reading up on him he seems well regarded and it sounds like we've got him from under the noses of a few rivals. It makes me feel really good about the ability of the manager, owner and backroom to work together to build a squad that will develop. And done in good time to allow the manager to get the squad well organised and turned into a real team. I think we are stealing a march on some of our rivals and it feels good.

And still the pit of my stomach recalls how it was under the Dark Ones and leaves me feeling out of water - I must get used to this organised approach being our new normal. I have to say, I'm getting pretty excited about next season!

Although I wouldn’t have minded Charlie, this type of signing makes a lot more sense.

By all accounts he’s a similar player, likes a set piece and could develop into our next “Charlie Adam”. Then consider the financial aspect and this is a brilliant signing.

It makes far more sense to be signing players like this who could very well command a seven figure transfer fee in the future instead of bringing in ones who are not only on the decline but also receiving a much higher wage.
Maybe this will be Sadler's business base and we could become the ultimate selling club - fun whilst it lasts but ultimately can be frustrating.

Apart from the ultra elite the whole of football is made up of selling clubs.
Liverpool sold Coutinho to fund VVD & Alisson to use a high profile example.
If Yates scores 20+ goals this season and moves on to a top Championship club for a couple of million (at least) the fee would then continue to fund players from League One/Two.
It makes perfect sense and is realistically the only way clubs our size can progress nowadays.
