Ellis Simms

Enjoyed 1957 to 1966.
Miserable 1967 relegated.
Enjoyed 1968 to 1970
Miserable 1971 relegated
Enjoyed 1972 to 1977
Mĺiserable 1978 relegated.
Several highs and lows after that with promotion and relegation, trips to old and new Wembley and Millennium.
Promotion to Premier a major high, obviously. Relegation disappointing but not unexpected. Losing to West Ham a major low....as was relegation to league1.
Mainly negative from 2012 onwards!
Oh and gutted when Owen and Karl left obviously

Can anyone guess Nigel’s username on here during the years we fell from Championship to League 2? He must have been suicidal especially as he was funding the regime. He did seem very angry towards the boycotters though on FB.

Made me laugh, that.

Agree, but my concern is are we going to be brave enough to drop Madine or Yates for a string of games to give him a decent run, or go for it and play 3 up front for enough games to see what he can do 🤔
Agree with this ⬆️ good luck to him, let's hope he turns out to be just what we want/need, I'm sure Everton are going to want him to have some game time, so let's see what he can do. 👍

I certainly hope he’s better than the last “next big thing“ we took on loan, the forward from Newcastle Utd, who was the next Alan Shearer, turned out to be a big disappointment.

12 days to go in this transfer window, do you think there’ll be anymore comings and goings and if so what positions?

Reading some of the posts on here has put me in a state of “disbelief”.
For years under the O’s I complained about “lack of ambition” now we have an owner who has signed an U23 coach from the current Premier League Champions, now we. sign a 21 year old striker on loan from a leading premiership club.........and still people moan and are cynical before the lads kicked a ball for TMP.
FFS STFU & give the lad a chance!!!........🚌#88
Some fans are pleased we've brought in a player who has smashed every level he has played at so far in his short career, some are reserving judgement until they see him play, I think that is a fair balance of where we are concerning Simms.

And then there is the usual suspect (it really is just one guy nowadays) who will literally find negativity in absolutely anything the club do.
He must be utterly insufferable in day to day life.

In many cases I do know more than most. I've never been afraid to express an opinion and never been one to sit on the fence. Like me or loathe me, it matters not. Too many snowflakes and sheep on here.
Having read that a lot of fans have blocked you and other fan's replies to you,
It seems the latter is more than likely the case

If we're honest, this is a bit of a punt. Unlikely to immediately step in and unlikely to improve the first XI, but he'll get chances off the bench and if he makes an impact, scores a few and earns the odd start, it's a good signing.

Nothing lost by taking a chance on him. Whether or not he has any success is likely to be as much a result of any other improvements we make as the efforts of the lad himself. We don't score enough and it's not simply because we don't have strikers.

His age comes into it, under 21. I wish him the best but won't be surprised if he finds league1 a big step up.
Another sign that this season is a write off.

Some reports say he can be lazy and no left peg. Big jump to league1 but good luck to him.

You've forgotten Sorenson already, have you?

A big step up to league1 level.

He'll have his chance and I wish him luck. He'll need it playing under Critchley...there are reasons why we've only scored 21 goals in 21 games...lack of creativity.

Not written off, but it's a big step up as the likes of Sorensen and Nuttall found out. No doubt it's a stop gap until the usual Pool summer transfer merry go round.

My Everton contact isn't as effusive in his praise of Simms. Talented but can be a tad lazy.

Yes, but don't they all when showing only a players best moments.

It must have been a lesson to him playing with the Goal Machine tonight. He looked a different player to the one on his own against Brighton who looked a raw kid. Same as Yates did when he played with the goal machine after playing on his own for the first 6 or 7 weeks.

It's almost as if the Goal Machine brings out qualities in other players....

This is a great point and one I think often overlooked. If a young player really wanted to learn the ropes on being a true pro and how to step up into league standard first team football then playing alongside an experienced player who is in great form, as we have in Madine right now, is a golden opportunity. Madine is impressing me with how much he is stepping into the role of leader and I think we are going to see more positive benefits on the younger players around him going forward.

Transfermarket says he's out of contract 31.05.2021.
Don't know how reliable this is.
That link says:
Contract expires:Jun 30, 2022
That'll be his Everton contract.
It'll be Everton's loan contract with us that expires this summer.
At least that's how I read it.

" A fog of misery rolled across England in the high summer of 1990. Our nation lay in ruination due to a Gateshead lad spectacularly "Bambering" his spot kick over the bar in the semi final of Italia '90 vs our ultimate rivals West Germany. And, while the exquisite tones of Pavarotti's masterpiece version of Nessun Dorma that once enchanted us began to fade and evoke frustrated feelings of disappointment and visions of another Gateshead lad crying on the pitch, something else happened to change all of that. On 24/08/90, in Gateshead, the birthplace of so many a great footballer that went on to fcuk up in global tournaments was born. The saviour. A new genius had arrived as Mrs Madine gave birth to her massive baby who she immediately named: Goal Machine......"
