Ellis Simms

Pleased we have signed a striker, decent goal scoring record at youth level, but so did Joe Nuttall 😉

Desperately need a couple of wide players now 🤞

His age comes into it, under 21. I wish him the best but won't be surprised if he finds league1 a big step up.
Another sign that this season is a write off.

That Echo article sounds like they have hopes he'll make it in the first team there having been training with them this year.

Let's hope he can make a difference, we certainly needed someone else who can play through the middle.
Just over 6 foot too so can hopefully put himself about a bit in the box.

Was hoping for someone more experienced but because of his age I suppose we still have room for that? Youth record looks good but that’s no guarantee really. Promising though

Last loanee we had from Everton was only a year older I believe, and that turned out pretty well. As far as I remember the season wasn't a write off either.

Edit: someone just rightly pointed out our last loan signing from Everton was Evans - my familiarity with the squad over that five year period isn't great. Point still stands!

We are short of attacking players and this lad seems to have good pedigree, that said we know all to well that doing well at U18 and U23 levels doesn't mean they can cut it. Hopefully he can get off to a good start and be a valuable addition to our squad.

Let’s see how he gets on. Always a big step from youth to senior football. Feels like it’s even more so for a striker (see also: Sorensen).

With a bit of luck, perhaps the lack of crowds will work to his/our advantage

Not writing him off, as I think he’ll score some goal for us, good luck to the lad.

I wouldn’t describe it as writing the season off but it is an acknowledgment that we’re not going for it this year.

It a clever signing to not bloat the squad up, give us some fire power until the summer where we’ll clean house again, probably loose Simms and Madine. Then sign 1 or 2 permanent strikers then for a promotion push.

Seen him being compared a lot to Nuttall. Joe had been playing senior football since 2015 before coming here (albeit not regularly until 2017), his goalscoring record prior to coming here wasn't great so when he came here and didn't cover himself in glory you could say it wasn't a huge surprise.

This lad is COMPLETELY unproven at senior football, which you could argue for or against with. He has a lot to prove with his first bash at senior football and I hope he shows what he's worth!

Lets hope there is another more experienced target man following in his footsteps just in case Madine falls foul of the law again or gets injured.

Guy I work with is an Everton fan and says he’s a fantastic prospect, let’s hope he can come good. I wouldn’t like to see another promising career ruined.

Been on the bench a couple of times for first XI and trains with them all the time, so those ruling him out entirely must be better judges than Neil Critchley, David Unsworth or Carlo Ancelotti.

Big step up as we know but looks like a natural finisher - can we get consistent service to him would be my concern. At the very least Madine and Yates will know they now have to keep scoring to keep their place.

Not at all disappointed with this. He can clearly score goals, and that goals clip on twitter sees him making his own chances, and poaching in the box. Id rather us get this lad on loan and see what he can do, rather then splash 200k on a striker in a panic buy who fails to deliver. If he can push us up the table and score some goals in the process, then it only looks good on the club developing young players (one of the big reasons in bringing Critch to the club), we are more likely to attract the kind of players in on loan (and younger ones on permanent deals) who will both strengthen us and make us money in the future. Some will work, some wont, but we have had two now that havnt quite worked, its time to change that and give this lad a real chance to impress.

I'd chuck Duncan Ferguson into that as well … if Big Dunc thinks he's ready then I'm not going to disagree with him 😬
