We were flying high all season, but just at the end of the season, we had hit a bad spell of form.

So our next game was a midweek away game at high flying Darlington. I think they were second and above us.
We had to win this game, but they were in form and we had just lost a couple of easy games (sound familiar?).

The crowd that night was 7021, treble Darlingtons normal gate swelled by nearly half of the crowd travelling from Blackpool.

We won 4-0 as the title says.

Now I'm not saying we will win 4-0 back in the north east, but I reckon we would have taken a massive crowd up there for this one.
The script says Sunderland will break their long winless streak as we have hit the panic button, so all we can hope for is history repeating itself.

BELIEVE!

Get behind the team everyone, we are more than capable of doing them on Tuesday.

A memorable game that all but sealed promotion against a close rival but we were in good form ( 9 games undefeated)
prior to that game. I would be happy with a draw this time.

I think we got promoted the next day as rival teams dropped points on the Saturday. That was the only downside to the night - not actually clinching promotion on the day.

Hereford lost on the Friday night, and we were up. Theres pictures somewhere on the Old Pictures thread of the pich invasion at the end of the Torquay game. Great day.

I was there that night having travelled from Aston University to Birmingham ,staying in Watford and travelling with BASIL.
Had an interview the next day at the MoD in Waltham Abbey having had virtually no sleep. Needless to say I wasn't at my best and did not get the job.

Can you see me getting a kicking on the pitch?
Sorry edit to add, it was the Darlo match I got "roughed up " at not Torquay

We haven't got Conroy, Dyer and Stewart in the side though. 🤣

What a game that was by the way

My biggest regret not going !

It was a great night apart from a loan voice in the crowd shouting
"Ellis out, you haven't got an effing clue. We should have scored 8".

I went to loads of away games that season but for some stupid reason swerved that one. A mate of mine likes to remind me of that every now & again 🥺

Magical night, I couldn't get to the Cardiff final,so this game for me is no.1.
Me too, absolutey fantastic night of football, I remember someone saying to me after my son was born, "Have you ever come close to feeling the way you did when you saw him being born?" I replied, "Well, I was at Darlington when Blackpool won 4-0", I was joking of course 😬

Cat, that was one great BASIL trip. It certainly was a (ahem) fun packed return to TTL. 🤪😮

Was living in Spain at the time but were in the north east for a visit to my wife’s family, her uncle took us to the game, brilliant night!!

Did anyone else stop at that pub on that S bend on the 66 on the way back, not a soul in it when I pulled our rental van into the car park.
It was mobbed within 20 minutes and the landlord must have thought Christmas had come early ⚽🍻🍻🍺🍺🍻🍻

Weren't we 2 up against Torquay on the last game of the season and ended up losing 2-3? It was a bit of a sickener even though we were already promoted.

Ten men went to mow a meadow was fun that night.

Went up in the back of a white van, weird trip to say the least including a random local Leeds fan who came with us, it kicked off, the roll up door was, well rolled up, and he got thrown out the back, in the middle of some countryside.

Ellis had to come out afterward as everyone stayed behind until he did.

Ended up in Bradford on the way back somehow.

Did the Beattie coach for that one, think he ran two. Ended up in their end next to the pool fans. We scored few scuffles when we cheered, got thrown out and snook back in over a wall. Missed one goal , but must have been 40/50 pool fans mulling about outside, either kicked out or refused entry.

Only Forest away in 2010 holds a candle to that game in the iconic stakes
What a night
Recall the services were ransacked on the way back after being swamped by returning fans
