Daniel Ballard signs

He'll be a good addition, we clearly need strengthening at centre back, I'd have preferred someone who is proven at this level but if NC can't find one, doesn't have the funds or confidence to manage that type of player, he's probably the best we can hope for.

He is well thought of at Arsenal.
Still very young though so not the experienced head many hoped would be signed at CB.

What a surprise.

A bunch of old farts think what the team needs is an old fart in the middle telling all the youngsters how to play.

“AYE Lad!!! Tha’s not looped tha laces under tha boots!!! And tha boots don’t protect tha ankles!!! They needz to be higher!!! Duz tha know nuthin?”.

I’m told Ballard is “comfortable on the ball” and “a good strong defender”.

Hopefully that means he doesn’t give away penalties.

The next Seamus Coleman

You heard it here first

I am worried that after arsenal he might find it a bit noisy when we are all back

Taylor Moore has started every game this season so far for Brizzle and they are top of the Championship, I think we can safely say he isn't coming here, sadly.

I think many have been hard on expetita as he seems to be pretty decent to me and will only get better.

Sorry to be a bit glass half empty but he really isn’t the experienced old head centre half we need right now.

sounds like the lad has a great future we need an old wise head right now.
Maybe if you'd have sent your top 3 choices for that position NC might have had a chance...

Good signing. Tilt and another striker (premier league loanee?) would round off the squad nicely in my opinion

Nothing to do with funds or confidence, anyone decent coming to league 1 is either over the hill last pay day or crocked, whilst you might get short term service from them it isn’t planning for the long term, which is what Critch is all about.

No use planning your extension if you don’t fix the dry rot in your house though. This signing is hopefully making a start on that.

The players future, there is little hope of this lad signing permanently. Unsure how that helps us any more in the long term in honesty.

That is the whole point of the loan system. In this case it gives a young player who is not ready for the Arsenal first team a chance of regular football. If he is considered as good enough for N.Ireland then he is should be worth a place in a League 1 team.

Him coming in and doing a job may result in an upturn in performances and thus results.
Playing in a successful team will potentially help the rest of the team.

I can't recall too many people thinking that having Seamus Coleman in our team wasn't benefitting the club long term. Same with Joe Hart. We didn't have a hope in hell of signing them permanently but they certainly contributed to where we ended up.

Sounds decent from the BBC site ...

Arsenal and Northern Ireland centre-back Daniel Ballard has joined Blackpool on loan until January.
Ballard, 21, started his country's last two Nations League fixtures against Romania and Norway in September.
But he is yet to make his senior Arsenal debut, and had a loan spell at Swindon last season cut short by injury after just three appearances.
"It's a great opportunity to play for a club like Blackpool," he said. "I'm really determined to do well here."

Quite clearly a talented young lad trying to gain experience, has featured for Northern Ireland first team and is highly thought of at Arsenal by all accounts.

However some on here don’t think it’s good business as he’s not played 300 games and is in his 30’s, unbelievable.

We are league one and to see a full international on loan from a club of Arsenal’s pedigree can be nothing but a positive.

This knackered old fart also has to be fast enough to play a high line.

I meant in general, the notion that Critch only signs under 23s because he doesn’t have the confidence to manage older players.

Was staggered he was 21! Least he has some height and hopefully is useful with his feet!
